Playback Performancewith Competitive Process

چکیده
While many researchers believe that multimedia applications are best managed with hard, real-time scheduling mechanisms, models based on application-level adaptation with relaxed scheduling constraints are gaining acceptance. We analyze an existing video conferencing application, which was designed without explicit support for CPU resource management, and propose modiications to its architecture to support CPU load adaptation. Inter-frame display times (IDT) for a 30 frames/sec video segment are analyzed for increasing multiprocessing loads. As expected, the IDT variance (and mean) increases markedly with load, especially beyond saturation. We show that this display jitter can be signiicantly reduced by gracefully adapting the application's load requirements to match the available CPU resources.

Behavioral Interactions Between Coexisting Species: Song Playback Experiments with Wood Warblers
Behavioral interactions between coexisting species may reflect underlying ecological interactions or may arise from factors unrelated to ecological interactions between species. We examined behavioral interactions between two coexisting, migratory wood warblers that competitively interact on breeding territories in central Arizona, USA. The larger Orange-crowned Warbler (Vermivora celata) is ag...

Asymmetries in competitive ability can determine the outcome of social interactions in animals and are often expressed through differences in sexual traits. Competitive ability (resource holding potential, RHP), trait expression and ultimately reproductive success may vary with an individual's age or experience. In some species, reproductively mature males delay acquisition of some adult traits...

Interspecific aggression between ecologically similar species may influence geographic limits by mediating competitive exclusion at the range edge. Advertisement signals that mediate competitive interactions within species may also provide social information that contributes to behavioral dominance and spatial segregation among species. We studied the mechanisms underlying altitudinal range lim...
متن کاملFast motion estimation and mode decision for H.264 reverse transcoding
Introduction: Reverse playback is the most common video cassette recording (VCR) function in digital video players [1–4]. However, the predictive technique adopted in various standards severely complicates this operation. One obvious approach of performing reverse playback on compressed video is to decode the compressed video, store all uncompressed frames in the decoder, and display them in re...
