Estimation of vocal cord biomechanical parameters by non-linear inverse filtering of voice

چکیده
Voice pathologies are a growing social concern, due to the role that voice and speech play in the performance of certain professions, and in the general population quality of life. In these last years emphasis has been placed in the early detection of these pathologies, for which computer tools performing voice processing are used to evaluate certain time and spectrum domain parameters to infer the presence of pathology. Going one step ahead the present work is aimed to estimate the values of the biomechanical parameters of the vocal fold system, as mass, stiffness and losses by the inversion of the vocal fold structure, which could help in classifying the specific patient’s pathology. The model structure of the vocal cord will be presented, and a method to estimate the biomechanical parameters of the cord body structure will be described. Results for normal and pathological cases will be presented and discussed.

Vocal Cord Model to Control Various Voices for Anthropomorphic Talking Robot
We have developed a biomechanical vocal cord model for an anthropomorphic talking robot—the Waseda Talker Series. The model mimics the biomechanical structure of human vocal cords and is made of a soft rubber called Septon. It is able to reproduce vocal cord vibrations of the normal (modal) voice in a form similar to the human. We also developed a neural network based model for controlling the ...

Objectives: The present study aims to compare acoustic voice parameters in patients with vocal cord nodules, polyps, and normal subjects. Methods: In this cross-sectional case-control study, the participants were selected by convenience sampling, including 30 patients with vocal polyps group, 38 patients with vocal nodules for the second group, and 42 participants without voice pathologies a...
متن کاملEvaluation of voice pathology based on the estimation of vocal fold biomechanical parameters.
Voice disorders are a source of increasing concern as normal voice quality is a social demand for at least one third of the population in developed countries in cases where voice is an essential resource in professional exercise. In addition, the growing exposure to certain pathogenic factors such as smoking, alcohol abuse, air pollution, and acoustic contamination, and other problems such as g...
متن کاملVoice source analysis using biomechanical modeling and glottal inverse filtering
This paper studies the use of glottal inverse filtering together with a biomechanical model of the vocal folds to simulate the glottal flow waveform. The glottal flow waveform is first estimated by inverse filtering the acoustic speech pressure signal of natural speech. The estimated glottal flow is used as a template in an optimization process which searches for a set of parameters for a deter...
متن کاملEstimation of Vocal Fold Characteristics using a Parametric Source Model
We describe a new method to estimate vocal cord dynamics using a parametric model of glottis movements in order to assess the health of the vocal cords and detect pathological conditions of the larynx. The underlying model is based on that proposed by the Fujisaki-Ljungqvist, modified by reducing the number of parameters. The choice of a parametric model enabled us to assess the impact of the v...
