چکیده

The electron–phonon (e–ph) interaction and the relaxation time of photo-excited electrons are calculated in graphite within the tight-binding scheme. The e–ph matrix element thus obtained, shows anisotropy in k-space. The calculated relaxation time is of the same order of magnitude as the experimental one. Moreover, below an energy close to the Fermi energy, the absorption rate exceeds the emission rate, which indicates that graphite can emit far infra-red electro-magnetic waves by absorbing heat. We also compare this result with Planck’s formula for black-body radiation. 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Temperature Dependence of Ultrafast Phonon Dynamics in Graphite

Nonequilibrium optical phonons are generated in graphite following the excitation of electron-hole pairs with a femtosecond laser pulse. Their energy relaxation is probed by means of terahertz pulses. We find that the hot-phonon lifetime increases by a factor of 2 when the sample temperature decreases from 300 to 5 K. These results suggest that the energy relaxation in graphite at room temperat...

Novel Electron-Phonon Relaxation Pathway in Graphite Revealed by Time-Resolved Raman Scattering and Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy

Time dynamics of photoexcited electron-hole pairs is important for a number of technologies, in particular solar cells. We combined ultrafast pump-probe Raman scattering and photoemission to directly follow electron-hole excitations as well as the G-phonon in graphite after an excitation by an intense laser pulse. This phonon is known to couple relatively strongly to electrons. Cross-correlatin...

Coherent and incoherent electron-phonon coupling in graphite observed with radio-frequency compressed ultrafast electron diffraction.

Radio-frequency compressed ultrafast electron diffraction has been used to probe the coherent and incoherent coupling of impulsive electronic excitation at 1.55 eV (800 nm) to optical and acoustic phonon modes directly from the perspective of the lattice degrees of freedom. A biexponential suppression of diffracted intensity due to relaxation of the electronic system into incoherent phonons is ...

Transient heat transport by carriers and phonons in semiconductors

The electron and phonon temperature distribution in semiconductors initially heated on the surface with a short laser pulse is calculated as a function of position and time. We solved the coupled one-dimensional heat diffusion equations for electron and phonon systems in the linear approximation in which the physical parameters of the sample are temperature independent. We also consider the hea...

Bias-Induced Optical Absorption of Current Carrying Two-Orbital Quantum Dot with Strong Electron-Phonon Interaction (Polaron Regime)

The one photon absorption (OPA) cross section of a current carrying two-orbital quantum dot (QD) with strong electron-phonon interaction (polaron regime) is considered. Using the self-consistent non-equilibrium Hartree-Fock (HF) approximation, we determine the dependence of OPA cross section on the applied bias voltage, the strength of effective electron-electron interaction, and level spacing ...
