چکیده

The purpose of this study is to investigate behaviors of motor units of m. biceps brachii (biceps short head muscle) during flexion movements in wide range of elbow joint angle. In this study, eight surface electromyograms(EMGs) were measured during flexion movements at constant angular velocity (isovelocity) and against constant torque in wide range (from 0 [deg] to 120 [deg]) of elbow joint angle with a surface electrode array. We identified action potensials of each moitor unit and detected recruitment and decruitment of the identified motor units. We found 42 recruitments and 38 decruitments of the motor units in 42 experimental sessions, 6 subjects. Keywords— motor unit, electromyogram, biceps brachii, recruitment, decruitment

Discharge characteristics of biceps brachii motor units at recruitment when older adults sustained an isometric contraction.

The purpose of this study was to compare the discharge characteristics of motor units recruited during an isometric contraction that was sustained with the elbow flexor muscles by older adults at target forces that were less than the recruitment threshold force of each isolated motor unit. The discharge times of 27 single motor units were recorded from the biceps brachii in 11 old adults (78.8 ...

Load type influences motor unit recruitment in biceps brachii during a sustained contraction.

Twenty subjects participated in four experiments designed to compare time to task failure and motor-unit recruitment threshold during contractions sustained at 15% of maximum as the elbow flexor muscles either supported an inertial load (position task) or exerted an equivalent constant torque against a rigid restraint (force task). Subcutaneous branched bipolar electrodes were used to record si...

Med., 1983, 139 (2), 219-220 Seven normal subjects were asked to flex the left elbow as quickly as possible, responding to a tone stimulus under three conditions: 1) during passive flexion of the elbow, 2) during passive extension and 3) without passive mo...

Intrinsic excitability of human motoneurons in biceps brachii versus triceps brachii.

The intrinsic excitability of spinal motoneurons is mediated in part by the presence of persistent inward currents (PICs), which amplify synaptic input and promote self-sustained firing. Studies using animal models have shown that PICs are greater in extensor motoneurons over flexor motoneurons, but this difference has not yet been demonstrated in humans. The primary objective of this study was...

Motor unit activity in biceps brachii of left-handed humans during sustained contractions with two load types.

The purpose of the study was to compare the discharge characteristics of single motor units during sustained isometric contractions that required either force or position control in left-handed individuals. The target force for the two sustained contractions (24.9 ± 10.5% maximal force) was identical for each biceps brachii motor unit (n = 32) and set at 4.7 ± 2.0% of maximal voluntary contract...
