چکیده

Many scheduling problems in project management, manufacturing, and elsewhere require the generation of activity networks to test proposed solution methods. Single-network generators have been used for the resourceconstrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP). Since the first single-network generator was proposed in 1993, several advances have been reported in the literature. However, these generators create only one network or project at a time; they cannot generate multi-project problems to desired specifications. This paper presents the first multinetwork problem generator. It is especially useful for investigating the resource-constrained multi-project scheduling problem (RCMPSP), where a controlled set of multi-project test problems is crucial for analyzing the performance of solution methods. In addition to the single-project characteristics handled by existing network generators—such as activity duration, resource types and usage, and network size, shape, and complexity—the proposed generator produces multi-project portfolios with controlled resource distributions and amounts of resource contention. To enable the generation of projects with desired levels of network complexity, we also develop several theoretical insights on the effects T.R. Finally, we generate 12,320 test problems for a full-factorial experiment and use analysis of means to conclude that the generator produces “near-strongly random” problems. Fully “strongly random” problems require much greater computational expense.

Optimizing a bi-objective preemptive multi-mode resource constrained project scheduling problem: NSGA-II and MOICA algorithms

The aim of a multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem (MRCPSP) is to assign resource(s) with the restricted capacity to an execution mode of activities by considering relationship constraints, to achieve pre-determined objective(s). These goals vary with managers or decision makers of any organization who should determine suitable objective(s) considering organization strategi...

An Optimization via Simulation approach for the preemptive and non-preemptive multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problems

In this paper a novel modelling and solving method has been developed to address the so-called resource constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) where project tasks have multiple modes and also the preemption of activities are allowed. To solve this NP-hard problem, a new general optimization via simulation (OvS) approach has been developed which is the main contribution of the current re...

A Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Optimization of Time-Cost Trade-off Problems in Project Scheduling Using a Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm (GA) for optimization of a multi-mode resource constrained time cost trade off (MRCTCT) problem. The proposed GA, each activity has several operational modes and each mode identifies a possible executive time and cost of the activity. Beyond earlier studies on time-cost trade-off problem, in MRCTCT problem, resource requirements of each execution mo...

An Efficient Genetic Agorithm for Solving the Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem Based on Random Key Representation

In this paper, a new genetic algorithm (GA) is presented for solving the multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem (MRCPSP) with minimization of project makespan as the objective subject to resource and precedence constraints. A random key and the related mode list (ML) representation scheme are used as encoding schemes and the multi-mode serial schedule generation scheme (MSSG...
