Effects of Traffic and Wind

چکیده
The purpose of this study is to assess the sensitivity of four highway bridges to wind and live loadings. The bridges are plarmed for construction on U.S. 59 in Houston, Texas. Each bridge will be of the tied-arch type and will be constructed on-grade over cut areas with clear spans in excess of 61 :reters (200 feet). To expedite construction, unique procedures are plarmed Which use existing bridges as platforms for final fabrication of the tied arches. !his procedure requires consideration of wind loading on the arches during construction.

The performance of many traffic control strategies depends on how much the traffic flow models have been accurately calibrated. One of the most applicable traffic flow model in traffic control and management is LWR or METANET model. Practically, key parameters in LWR model, including free flow speed and critical density, are parameterized using flow and speed measurements gathered by inductive ...

Traffic induced turbulence coupled with natural air motions becomes an important variable affecting the dispersion of exhaust emissions, especially under low wind conditions. A flexible model vehicle movement system (ƒMVMS) for an urban intersection having two-way straight and radial peripheral traffic flows has been designed, fabricated and made operational in the EWT to study the traffic indu...

The performance of bridges under strong wind and traffic is of great importance to set the traveling speed limit or to make operational decisions for severe weather, such as controlling traffic or even closing the bridge. Meanwhile, the vehicle‟s safety is highly concerned when it is running on bridges or highways under strong wind. During the past two decades, researchers have made significant...

In micro-scale numerical modelling of street canyon pollution, an inverse proportionality of additional concentration (C) with wind speed (U_roof) is often assumed for cases without buoyancy, stability effects, solar radiation and traffic induced turbulence. Detailed data analyses of two comprehensive field datasets from Göttinger Straße in Hannover and Jagtvej, Copenhagen including concentrati...

The benefits of wind power generation have led to an ever-increasing expansion of wind farms around the world. The low cost of production and the environmental benefits of wind farms are some of the main reasons for using wind energy. On the other hand, uncertainty costs in the production and control of the output of wind turbines are among the problems that are being encountered for electricit...
