Adverse Effects of Salinity on Citrus
نویسنده
چکیده
Due to the rapid expansion of irrigated agriculture, efficient use of the limited water resources in arid and semi-arid regions is becoming more and more vital. However, water salinity is a major problem due to its negative influence on the yields of many crops. It reduces citrus trees’ growth and causes physiological disorders. Salt-stress lowers net CO2 assimilation, stomatal conductance, and water potential of citrus tree leaves, in addition to accumulation of excessive concentration of chloride or sodium in leaves. A great deal of research indicates that citrus have the genetic potential to be salt-sensitive. However, inheritance studies in citrus are scarce. In this paper, the adverse of effects of salinity on physiological aspects of citrus are reviewed. The review summarizes the current state of knowledge about the responses and tolerance of citrus trees to salinity.

متن کاملتاثیر سولفات آمونیوم بر رشد و تجمع یونی در دانهال های نارنج (Citrus aurantium) تحت شرایط تنش شوری
In order to investigate the interaction effect of salinity and nitrogen on growth, mineral composition and salinity tolerance of soure orange seedlings a factorial experiment was carried out in completely randomized design with three replications. Factors consisted of four sodium chloride rates (0, 250, 500 and 1000 mg sodium chloride kg-1 soil) and four nitrogen levels (0, 50, 100, and 200 mg ...
متن کاملEffect of humic acid on some vegetative traits and ion concentrations of Mexican Lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) seedlings under salt stress
Effects of humic acid on some vegetative characteristics and mineral concentrations of Mexican lime were investigated under different salinity concentrations. Four doses of humic acid (0, 1500, 3000 and 4000 mg/kg soil) and four salinity levels (1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500 µmos) were applied on Mexican lime seedlings. Experiment was conducted as a factorial arrangement based on a completely rando...
متن کاملCitrus response to salinity: growth and nutrient uptake.
To determine the effects of salinity on relative growth rate (RGR), net assimilation rate on a leaf weight basis (NAR(w)), leaf weight ratio (LWR), and nutrient uptake and utilization of citrus, we grew four citrus rootstocks (sour orange, Cleopatra mandarin, Carrizo citrange and Citrus macrophylla) in nutrient solutions containing 0, 10, 20, 40 or 80 mM NaCl for 20, 40 or 60 days. For each ele...
متن کاملSalinity tolerance of 'Valencia' orange trees on rootstocks with contrasting salt tolerance is not improved by moderate shade.
The effects of shading in combination with salinity treatments were studied in citrus trees on two rootstocks with contrasting salt tolerance to determine if shading could reduce the negative effects of salinity stress. Well-nourished 2-year-old 'Valencia' orange trees grafted on Cleopatra mandarin (Cleo, relatively salt tolerant) or Carrizo citrange (Carr, relatively salt sensitive), were grow...
