چکیده
Four new Epicephala species that feed on the seeds of Glochidionsphaerogynum (Phyllanthaceae) from Yinggeling Mountain Nature Reserves in Hainan Province of China are described: Epicephaladomina sp. n., Epicephalaimpolliniferens sp. n., Epicephalaangustisaccula sp. n. and Epicephalacamurella sp. n. The latter two species are also associated with Glochidionwrightii. Photographs of adults and genital structures are provided.

Three new species of Epicephala Meyrick, 1880 are described based on specimens reared from fruits of Phyllanthusmicrocarpus (Benth.): Epicephalamicrocarpa sp. n. and Epicephalalaeviclada sp. n. from Guangxi and Hainan, and Epicephalatertiaria sp. n. from Guangdong and Guangxi. Photographs of adults and illustrations of genital structures are provided.
متن کاملRevision of the Japanese species of Epicephala Meyrick with descriptions of seven new species (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae)
Epicephala moths are involved in obligate mutualisms with their Phyllanthaceae hosts, in which the female moths assure pollination and, in return, their progeny develop by consuming the seeds. Ecological, molecular and geographical data suggest that the genus includes several hundred species, but the majority remains to be formally described. Here we revise the Japanese species of Epicephala Me...
متن کاملRepeated colonization of remote islands by specialized mutualists.
Mutualisms are ubiquitous in nature, but constraints imposed by specialization may limit their ability to colonize novel environments synchronously. The ability of mutualisms to reassemble following disturbance is central to understanding their response to global change. Here, we demonstrate that a highly specialized pollination mutualism considered to be obligate (Phyllanthaceae: Glochidion; L...
متن کاملNon-congruent colonizations and diversification in a coevolving pollination mutualism on oceanic islands.
A challenge for coevolutionary theory is how different types of interaction influence the diversification of coevolving clades. Reciprocal specialization is characteristic of certain coevolving, mutualistic interactions, but whether this specialization seen in ecological time constrains changes in patterns of interaction over evolutionary time remains unclear. Here, we examine the co-radiation ...
متن کاملDiffuse Coevolution between Two Epicephala Species (Gracillariidae) and Two Breynia Species (Phyllanthaceae)
The diffuse coevolution between two moth species (Epicephala lativalvaris and E. mirivalvata) and two plant species (Breynia fruticosa and B. rostrata) is reported based on field observations and indoor experiments conducted in Hainan and Fujian, China. Study results showed that the two Epicephala species jointly pollinated the two Breynia species, which led to a unique obligate pollination mut...
