چکیده

The paper describes a method that extracts planar roof faces of building objects from point clouds obtained by a pre-segmentation of airborne laserscanner data. The method utilises a TIN-structure that is calculated into the point cloud. The parameters of every TINmesh are mapped into a triangle-mesh parameter space, which is then analysed by cluster analysis techniques. Both the utilisation of a 2-D parameter space (containing only triangle-mesh slope and orientation) and a 3-D parameter space (containing all three plane parameters) are described and tested. By cluster analysis and available knowledge on possible roof shapes, significant planes are derived from triangle parameter space. Results show that the use of a full 3-D plane parameter space is superior to the analysis of triangle-mesh slope and orientation only. Well-defined building roof planes can be extracted successfully, while disturbances such as dorms on buildings or geometric discrepancies in laserscanner data strip overlaps may significantly reduce the applicability of the technique.

Analysis of Tin-structure Parameter Spaces in Airborne Laser Scanner Data for 3-d Building Model Generation

This paper presents a data-driven method for automatic building reconstruction from raw airborne laser scanner data. The method utilises a TIN-structure that is calculated into the point cloud. The parameters of every TIN-mesh are mapped into a 3D trianglemesh parameter space, which is then analysed using a cluster analysis technique. By analysing the clusters, significant roof planes are deriv...

An Approach to 3D Building Model Reconstruction from Airborne Laser Scanner Data Using Parameter Space Analysis and Fusion of Primitives

Within this work an approach was developed, which utilises airborne laser scanner data in order to generate 3D building models. These 3D building models may be used for technical and environmental planning. The approach has to follow certain requirements such as working automatically and robust and being flexible in use but still practicable. The approach starts with small point clouds containi...

3d Building Model Generation from Airborne Laserscanner Data by Straight Line Detection in Specific Orthogonal Projections

The paper describes a novel approach for the generation of 3D building models from airborne laserscanner data, which is based on the detection of straight lines in specific 2D projections of the data. First, the main roof ridge directions of a building are determined. Based on these ridge directions, hypotheses on the roof orientation are generated. The whole point cloud is rotated by the roof ...

Tree Detection and Diameter Estimations by Analysis of Forest Terrestrial Laserscanner Point Clouds

Forest inventory schemes collect, besides tree species and some area parameters, geometric tree parameters such as diameter at breast height (DBH), tree height, stem profiles, azimuth and distance. For some years the use of a terrestrial laserscanner for this forestry inventory task has been discussed. Dense 3D point clouds recorded in forest stands may form the basis for automatic determinatio...

A 3D Shape Descriptor Based on Contour Clusters for Damaged Roof Detection Using Airborne LiDAR Point Clouds

The rapid and accurate assessment of building damage states using only post-event remote sensing data is critical when performing loss estimation in earthquake emergency response. Damaged roof detection is one of the most efficient methods of assessing building damage. In particular, airborne LiDAR is often used to detect roofs damaged by earthquakes, especially for certain damage types, due to...
