چکیده

The process of converting an analog map into struc tured digitized information requires several di erent operations which are all time consuming when per formed manually Strictly automatic processing is not always a possible solution and an interactive approach can then be an alternative This paper describes a tool for map conversion fo cusing on the functionality for extraction of line struc tures An interactive approach is used as it gives the user an opportunity to survey the process and utilize human knowledge The methods are based on contour following extracting centre points needed for accurate vector representation of the line during tracing

Automatic/Interactive Interpretation of Color Map Images

In this paper, a combined automatic/interactive technology and algorithms for interpretation of color maps is proposed. Main stages of technology are: color image binarization, binary image vectorization and vectorized image object interpretation. Special scheme for automatic image vectorization as well as automatic object recognition techniques performed under operator control are proposed. Pr...

Benchmarking: An Interactive Tool for Vectorization of Raster Images

Methods have been presented to compute the vector representations of the arbitrary lines in a bilevel raster image. The image may have varying line width and irregular boundaries. Moreover, at line crossings and branches, the user has an opportunity to choose the direction in which line tracking may be continued. The usual method involves thresholding, thinning, segmentation, polygonalization, ...

Generating Named Road Vector Data from Raster Maps

Raster maps contain rich road information, such as the topology and names of roads, but this information is “locked” in images and inaccessible in a geographic information system (GIS). Previous approaches for road extraction from raster maps typically handle this problem as raster-to-vector conversion and hence the extracted road vector data are line segments without the knowledge of road name...

Raster to Vector Conversion in a Map Interpretation System

This paper describes the two components: thinning and vectorization, at the front end of a Geographic Information System. The raster dataset associated with a map is very large. A small D-sized drawing gives a 120 Mpixel document. The amount of page faults encountered by a typical conventional thinning algorithm is so large that the run time is dominated by disk 110 time. The Contour Generation...

Vectorization of Linear Features in Scanned Topographic Maps Using Adaptive Image Segmentation and Sequential Line Tracking

Vectorization of cartographic features is a difficult task in geographic information acquisition from topographic maps. This paper presents a semi-automatic approach to linear feature vectorization directly in original scanned colour topographic maps without layer separation. In the approach, a sliding window is added on a user-given linear feature, and the current line in the window is segment...
