TNK Ankle-The Ceramic 2-Component Total Ankle Prosthesis
نویسندگان
چکیده
The TNK ankle is a total ankle prosthesis which was first used in clinical settings in 1980, and which has been used in Japan for more than 30 years. The TNK ankle is only major model made from alumina ceramic materials, and is a 2-component type prosthesis with semi-constrained sliding surfaces. Due to various improvements in the surfaces in contact with the bone, the TNK ankle has consistently shown stable clinical outcomes, mainly in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), although a loosening or sinking of the prosthesis has been found in some cases. In this review, we review the features and clinical outcomes of the TNK ankle, as well as the recently reported biomechanical research studies; in addition, we describe future perspectives pertaining thereto.

Evaluation of a Viscoelastic Ankle-Foot Prosthesis at Slow and Normal Walking Speeds on an Able-Bodied Subject
Objectives: This paper describes further improvement and preliminarily evaluation of a novel viscoelastic ankle-foot prosthesis prototype. The objective was to control the ankle hysteresis at slow and normal walking speeds. Methods: Inspired by the ankle biomechanics, in which the hysteresis differs based on the gait speeds, a manually damping control mechanism imbedded in the prosthesis for...
متن کاملTotal ankle replacement using HINTEGRA, an unconstrained, three-component system: surgical technique and pitfalls.
Total ankle replacement (TAR) has become a valuable treatment option in patients with end-stage ankle osteoarthritis. One popular 3-component system, the HINTEGRA TAR, is an unconstrained system that provides inversion-eversion stability. More natural biomechanics of the replaced ankle may be expected when anatomic considerations drive prosthesis design. The HINTEGRA prosthesis includes 2 anato...
متن کاملOptimization of Ankle-Foot Prosthesis with Active Alignment by Passive Elements
Today, often ankle’s active prosthesis is used for transtibial amputated people’s walking, because these prostheses have some advantages such as increasing power and decreasing metabolism. In most of active prosthesis in order to create a movement or increase the force at the push-off, electrical actuators are used like a motor. In cases where a higher-power motor is necessary, the capacity, we...
متن کاملTen-year evaluation of cementless Buechel-Pappas meniscal bearing total ankle replacement.
A porous-coated, cementless, congruent-contact, three-piece, meniscal-bearing total ankle replacement was developed and used clinically over a 2- to 10-year period for patients with disabling ankle arthritis. Polished titanium-nitride ceramic-coated Ti6Al4V tibial and talar components with a deep-sulcus trochlear groove and two lateral fixation fins for the talar onlay component were used. The ...
متن کاملCustom-Made Alumina Ceramic Total Talar Prosthesis for Idiopathic Aseptic Necrosis of the Talus: Report of Two Cases
Two women aged 65 years and 78 years presented to our center with idiopathic necrosis of the talus. In both cases, imaging examinations showed collapse and sclerotic changes of the talar body caused by the necrosis. Both women underwent resection and placement of a third-generation custom-made alumina ceramic total talar prosthesis. Immobilization of the ankle in a short-leg cast for 3 weeks wa...
