چکیده

The labeling patterns found in tissue glutamate, aspartate, and alanine after administration of glutaric acid-3-Cl4 to male rats (1) indicated that the major catabolic route of glutarate is via acetate (2) and not via a direct conversion to the carbon chain of cu-ketoglutarate (3-5). In further studies on the metabolism of glutarate-3-C14 in rats, we have observed the formation of urinary acetyl groups labeled in the carboxyl position and of urinary acetoacetate labeled chiefly in the carbonyl carbon. Also, rat liver mitochondria have been found to form acetoacetate, labeled predominately in the carbonyl carbon, from glutarate-3-Cr4. To date, our efforts to implicate acetonedicarboxylic acid or /?-hydroxyglutaric acid as intermediates in glutarate catabolism have been unsuccessful.

Catabolism of pipecolate to glutamate in Pseudomonas putida.

In the presence of pipecolate, Pseudomonas putida P2 (ATCC 25571) converts cu-amino[6-14C]adipate to radioactive glutamate with a 14C distribution of 11% and 80 % in carbons 1 and 5, respectively. This labeling pattern, when considered with previous data, indicates that a-aminoadipate is an obligate intermediate in the metabolism of pipecolate to glutamate. Some of the 14C in carbon 1 results f...

Bacterial metabolism of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaric acid.

An organism belonging to Pseudomonadaceae and capable of utilizing 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutarate as sole carbon source has been isolated from soil. Whole-cell preparations catalyze the oxidation of acetoacetate, acetate, glyoxylate, and citric acid cycle intermediates. Cell-free extracts of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutarate-grown cells show an adenosine triphosphate, coenzyme A (CoA), and Mg(2+)-depend...

The Metabolism of Glutaric

Glutaric acid has been shown to be metabolized in part to acetoacetate and acetate in the rat, most probably by way of butyrate or acetonedicarboxylate (1). In addition, it was pointed out that part of the glutaric acid might also be converted to a-ketoglutarate by a more or less direct pathway. Study of the metabolism of lysine-6-Cl4 (2) has since provided substantial evidence in favor of this...

Compartmentation of Metabolism of the C12-, C9-, and C5-n-dicarboxylates in Rat Liver, Investigated by Mass Isotopomer Analysis: ANAPLEROSIS FROM DODECANEDIOATE.

We investigated the compartmentation of the catabolism of dodecanedioate (DODA), azelate, and glutarate in perfused rat livers, using a combination of metabolomics and mass isotopomer analyses. Livers were perfused with recirculating or nonrecirculating buffer containing one fully (13)C-labeled dicarboxylate. Information on the peroxisomal versus mitochondrial catabolism was gathered from the l...

Lithium Ions and Insulin: Effects on Carbohydrate and Electrolyte Metabolism

It is not yet possible to interpret thesc results completely. The acids affected are all dicarboxylic acids with a chain length of between C, and Cs. The glutarate derivatives showed the greatest increases. Citrate excretion was unchanged (Bond et d., 1972). This suggests that the range of compounds affected is determined by chemical structure rather than metabolic relationship, and that this i...
