چکیده

Pulsed field gradient (PFG) NMR is applied to measure self-diffusion coefficients of 1,3,5 triisopropyl-benzene in the particles of several industrial FCC catalysts having different systems of mesoand macropores. Relating these diffusivities to the self-diffusion coefficient of 1,3,5 tri-isopropyl-benzene in the liquid phase, the tortuosity factors for diffusion in the mesoand macropores of the particles were obtained. The values of the tortuosity factors were found to increase with a increasing volumetric fraction of the small (< 20 nm) mesoand macropores in the total intraparticle volume.

Water dynamics of LiCl solutions confined in nanopores

The self-diffusion of water in aqueous solutions of lithium chloride in bulk solutions and in these solutions confined to porous glass monoliths with bimodal pore structure has been studied by PFG NMR. The concentration dependent data for the bulk solutions are analyzed by the description of Sevrugin et al. [1], which yields information about the water dynamics within the ion’s hydration shell....

Long-range diffusion in beds of nanoporous particles: pitfalls and potentials.

Owing to the recent progress in the area of hardware and software of the pulsed field gradient NMR technique, molecular transport in real-life zeolite systems, such as zeolite beds and particles of formulated fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts, can be investigated in detail. These studies have revealed a number of important features of molecular transport in zeolites, which are reviewed i...

Friedel–Crafts alkylation properties of aluminosilica SBA-15 meso/macroporous monoliths and mesoporous powders

The catalytic activities of SBA-15 aluminosilica meso/macroporous monoliths (Si/Al = 72) and mesoporous powders (Si/Al = 70) have been investigated using batch Friedel–Crafts alkylation of single-ring aromatic compounds, including toluene, ethylbenzene, cumene, and styrene, with benzyl alcohol. The toluene alkylation activities of the meso/macroporous monolith catalysts were compared with nanop...

New Options for Measuring Molecular Diffusion in Zeolites by MAS PFG NMR

1. Introduction Combination of pulsed field gradient (PFG) NMR with magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR is demonstrated to have remarkable advantages in comparison with conventional PFG NMR, if applied to diffusion measurements in beds of nanoporous particles, notably zeolites. These advantages are based on the effect of line narrowing and concern (i) a prolongation of the intervals during which the...

Specimens Using the Double-PFG NMR Methodology Noam Shemesh 1, Evren Ozarslan 2, Peter Basser 2, Yoram Cohen 1 1 Tel Aviv University, 2 National Institute of Health Discussion Diffusion-diffraction patterns arising from restricted diffusion are extremely important for characterizing pore morphology. In conventional single-PFG (sPFG) NMR experiments, pore size can be directly inferred from the m...
