An evidence-based algorithm for the management of common peroneal nerve injury associated with traumatic knee dislocation

چکیده
Traumatic knee dislocation is a complex ligamentous injury that may be associated with simultaneous vascular and neurological injury.Although orthopaedic surgeons may consider CPN exploration at the time of ligament reconstruction, there is no standardised approach to the management of this complex and debilitating complication. This review focusses on published evidence of the outcomes of common peroneal nerve (CPN) injuries associated with knee dislocation, and proposes an algorithm for the management. Spontaneous non-traumatic dislocation of the knee.
Ligamentous injuries of the knee occur during sports and where there is extensive injury associated with subluxation or dislocation. We present a case of an obese female who sustained spontaneous non-traumatic posterior knee dislocation when she caught her foot while rising from the sitting down position. There was associated peroneal nerve injury but an angiogram confirmed no vascular compromi...
متن کاملDemographics and Injuries Associated With Knee Dislocation: A Prospective Review of 303 Patients
BACKGROUND Information on the incidence, injury mechanisms, ligament injury patterns, and associated injuries of knee dislocations is lacking in the literature. There is a need to characterize ligament injury patterns and associated injuries in knee dislocations to avoid missing common associated diagnoses and to plan surgical treatment. PURPOSE To evaluate patient demographics, ligament inju...
متن کاملTraumatic anterior knee dislocation and tibial shaft fracture: a case report.
We report a case of traumatic anterior dislocation of the left knee with an ipsilateral tibial shaft fracture in association with popliteal artery and common peroneal nerve injuries. To our knowledge, such a combination of injuries has not been reported before. All components of this injury were recognised and treated promptly with rehabilitation commencing early, resulting in a good functional...
متن کاملTraumatic Anterior Dislocation of the Knee Without Any Neurovascular Complication – Case Report
We are reporting a case of traumatic anterior dislocation of the left knee without any neurovascular complication. To our knowledge, such complete dislocation without involvement of popliteal artery and/or peroneal nerve has not been reported before however similar cases are reported after total knee replacement with and without neurovascular compromise. This injury was recognized and treated p...

Peroneal nerve injuries have been reported in association with various causes around the knee such as traumatic varus injury, traumatic dislocation, upper tibial osteotomy, knee arthroscopy and total knee arthroplasty. Two instances of varus arthritic knee associated with a peroneal nerve palsy have been reported so far. One presented with gradual onset peroneal nerve palsy that recovered with ...
