چکیده

Media streaming is a popular application demanding high data rates and hard delay constraints. These requirements raise great challenges in the wireless environment, where signal fading, noise interference and network congestion introduce data losses or corruptions. Today, the availability of the Third Generation (3G) wireless system and the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) provides a broader bandwidth to cater for multimedia application. Different characteristics of 3G and WLAN networks result in different attributes in video streaming applications. In this paper, we propose a collaborative scheme across 3G and WLAN networks for video streaming, using layered video coding and Unequal Error Protection (UEP) to improve the perceived video quality.

An efficient non-repudiation billing protocol in heterogeneous 3G-WLAN networks

The wireless communication with delivering variety of services to users is growing rapidly in recent years. The third generation of cellular networks (3G), and local wireless networks (WLAN) are the two widely used technologies in wireless networks. 3G networks have the capability of covering a vast area; while, WLAN networks provide higher transmission rates with less coverage. Since the two n...

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks

Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

Improving Video Quality for Handover between Legacy MIPv4 Overlay Networks

In this paper, we introduce a novel specialized MIP implementation (S-MIP) to reduce native MIP latency into a scenario in which Wireless Local Network (WLAN) and 3G networks are integrated through user multimode terminal. This solution attempts to preserve the quality of the streaming video during each handover and recover the user video session damaged by high delays caused by MIP. The perfor...

Next Generation Mobile Wireless Hybrid Network Interworking Architecture A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ENGINEERING

It is a universally stated design requirement that next generation mobile systems will be compatible and interoperable with IPv6 and with various access technologies such as IEEE 802.11x. Discussion in the literature is currently as to whether the recently developed High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) or the developing Long Term Evaluation (LTE) technology is appropriate for the next generation mob...
