چکیده
NGC 1313 is the most massive disk galaxy showing a flat radial abundance distribution in its interstellar gas, a behavior generally observed in magellanic and irregular galaxies. We have attempted to reproduce this flat abundance distribution using a multiphase chemical evolution model, which has been previously used successfully to depict other spiral galaxies along the Hubble morphological sequence. We found that it is not possible to reproduce the flat radial abundance distribution in NGC 1313, and at the same time, be consistent with observed radial distributions of other key parameters such as the surface gas density and star formation profiles. We conclude that a more complicated galactic evolution model including radial flows, and possibly mass loss due to supernova explosions and winds, is necessary to explain the apparent chemical uniformity of the disk of NGC 1313.

Multi-epoch VLBA observations of the maser in NGC 4258 have yielded a 4% geometrical distance to the galaxy. The potential scientific payoffs of finding similar objects at large distances, in the Hubble flow, are considerable. In this contribution, I discuss the plausibility of detecting high-redshift water masers, and describe a search strategy that we have implemented to realize this objective.

Among the Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) that have suffered type mutations, the classically classified Seyfert 2 NGC 7582 recently found at a Seyfert 1 stage, is perhaps one of the most puzzling cases, since it defies a well supported case for unification. We investigate the possibility that this type transition, common to other 12 AGN, is driven by supernovae (SN) exploding in a nuclear/circumnu...

Modelisations of galactic 1.275 MeV emission produced by the decay 22 Na have been performed for several frequency-spatial distributions of ONe novae. Recent results of nova rates and their distributions in our Galaxy have been used. These modelisations allow to estimate the lower-limit of the 22 Na mass ejected per ONe novae detectable with the future spectrometer (SPI) of the INTEGRAL observa...

High-resolution optical spectra of thirteen blue horizontal-branch (BHB) stars in the globular cluster M13 show enormous deviations in element abundances from the expected cluster metallicity. In the hotter stars (Teff > 12000K), helium is depleted by factors of 10 to 100 below solar, while iron is enhanced to three times the solar abundance, two orders of magnitude above the canonical metallic...
