The Application Protocol Information Base World Wide Web Gateway

چکیده
The Application Protocol Information Base (APIB) is an on-line repository of documents for the Standard for the Exchange of Product model data (STEP, officially ISO 10303—Product Data Representation and Exchange). Document types in the APIB include STEP Application Protocols and Integrated Resources. Application Protocols are standards that are intended to be implemented in software systems, and Integrated Resources are used by them as building blocks. Application Protocols and Integrated Resources are represented in the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) in the APIB in order to facilitate efficient information search and retrieval. This paper describes a World Wide Web gateway to the APIB, implemented using the Common Gateway Interface (CGI) standard. The APIB gateway allows STEP developers to efficiently search for ISO 10303 standards and supporting information. The only client software required to use the APIB gateway is a third

Interactive applications on the World-Wide Web are supported by the CGI interface, which allows transferring information from the browser to programs invoked by the server. Information is obtained through fillout forms embedded in documents written in the HTML language and rendered by the browser as collections of user interface objects. While the World-Wide Web is based on the stateless HTTP p...

The exploding demand for services like the World Wide Web re ects the potential that is presented by globally distributed information systems. The number of WWW servers world-wide has doubled every 3 to 5 months since 1993, outstripping even the growth of the Internet. At each of these self-managed sites, the Common Gateway Interface (CGI) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) already constitu...
