چکیده

Congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt (CEPS) is a rare disorder characterised by partial or complete diversion of portomesenteric blood into systemic veins via congenital shunts. Type I is characterised by complete lack of intrahepatic portal venous blood flow due to an end to side fistula between main portal vein and the inferior vena cava. Type II on the other hand is characterised by partial preservation of portal blood supply to liver and side to side fistula between main portal vein or its branches and mesenteric, splenic, gastric, and systemic veins. The presentation of these patients is variable. Focal liver lesions, most commonly nodular regenerative hyperplasia, are an important clue to the underlying condition. This pictorial essay covers imaging characteristics in abdominopelvic region.

Clinical communication — Kliniese mededeling Contrast-enhanced computed tomography angiography and volume-rendered imaging for evaluation of cellophane banding in a dog with extrahepatic portosystemic shunt

INTRODUCTION Portosystemic shunts are anomalous vessels that join the portal and systemic venous circulation, allowing most of the portal blood to bypass the liver and enter the systemic circulation and are classified as intrahepatic or extrahepatic. Portosystemic shunting occurs either as a single congenital shunt or as multiple acquired shunts due to chronic portal hypertension. Radiographic ...

Advanced Imaging in Portosystemic Shunt Diagnosis

Key Points: • Various advanced imaging modalities may be used to diagnose extrahepatic portosystemic shunts (PSS), including ultrasound, transsplenic scintigraphy, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), each with unique advantages and disadvantages. • CT angiography provides the best detail of overall shunt anatomy and is also helpful in rechecking patients with persiste...

Portosystemic shunts in dogs and cats: imaging portosystemic shunts in small animals – ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging

Because of the non-specificity of the clinical signs and laboratory findings, imaging techniques such as portography, ultrasonography (US), nuclear scintigraphy, computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are required to provide a definitive diagnosis of portosystemic shunts (PSSs). Nuclear scintigraphy is the gold standard for detecting PSSs, but it is not useful in distingu...

Anatomy of extrahepatic portosystemic shunts in dogs as determined by computed tomography angiography.

Congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunts are anomalous vessels joining portal and systemic venous circulation. These shunts are often diagnosed sonographically, but computed tomography (CT) angiography produces high-resolution images that give a more comprehensive overview of the abnormal portal anatomy. CT angiography was performed on 25 dogs subsequently proven to have an extrahepatic por...
