In 1948, Conan first reported 6 cases of hepatic amaebiasis (without abscess of the liver) successfully treated with Chloroquine. In the same year Murgatroyd and Kant reported a case of refractory amcebic abscess treated with Chloroquine. In 1949 Conan confirmed the efficacy of Chloroquine against amcebic hepatitis (without abscess formation) with the report of 7 cases?in which it was used with success.
