Wide-range multiwavelength observations of northern TeV blazars with MAGIC/HESS, Suzaku and KVA

چکیده
We have conducted multiwavelength observations of several northern TeV blazars employing the ground-based γ-ray observatories MAGIC and HESS, the optical KVA telescope, and the Suzaku X-ray satellite. The data taken in 2006 establish measurements of the contemporaneous spectral energy distributions of the rapidly variable blazar emission over a wide range of frequencies. Results allow us to test leptonic and hadronic emission and particle acceleration models which predict different correlations between the optical, X-ray, and very high enery γ-ray emissions. In this presentation, we report on the highlights of the results of these observations.

Monitoring of Bright Blazars with MAGIC in the 2007/2008 Season
Because of the short duty-cycles and observation-time constraints, studies of bright TeV (E>100 GeV) blazars are mostly restricted to flaring episodes or rather short (days to few weeks) multiwavelength campaigns. At the same time, long-term studies of these objects are essential to gain a more complete understanding of the blazar phenomenon and to constrain theoretical models concerning jet ph...

The MAGIC telescope, with its 17-m diameter mirror, is currently the largest single-dish Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescope. It is located on the Canary Island of La Palma, at an altitude of 2200 m above sea level, and is operating since 2004. The accessible energy range is in the very high energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) γ-ray domain, and roughly 40% of the duty cycle is devoted to observation of extra...
متن کاملPhenomenology of Gamma-Ray Jets
We discuss some phenomenological aspects of γ-ray emitting jets. In particular, we present calculations of the γ-sphere and π-sphere for various target photon fields and employ them to demonstrate how γ-ray observations at very high energies can be used to constraint the Doppler factor of the emitting plasma and the production of VHE neutrinos. We also consider some implications of the rapid Te...
متن کاملObservation of Very-High-Energy Gamma-Rays from Blazars with the MAGIC Telescope
Blazars, a subclass of active galactic nuclei in which the jet is aligned very close to our line of sight, can accelerate charged particles to relativistic energies in the jet. Electromagnetic emission from this class of sources can be observed from radio up to TeV energies. The MAGIC telescope is an Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope with a 17-m diameter dish, located on the Canary Island...
متن کاملScientific Highlights from Observations of Active Galactic Nuclei with the MAGIC Telescope
Since 2004, the MAGIC γ-ray telescope has newly discovered 6 TeV blazars. The total set of 13 MAGIC-detected active galactic nuclei includes well-studied objects at other wavelengths like Markarian 501 and the giant radio galaxy M 87, but also the distant the flat-spectrum radio quasar 3C 279, and the newly discovered TeV γ-ray emitter S5 0716+71. In addition, also long-term and multi-wavelengt...
