Review. Plant food allergens: peach non-specific lipid transfer protein Pru p 3 as a model
نویسندگان
چکیده
Plant non-specific lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are plant defence proteins that constitute a relevant panallergen family present in both plant foods and pollens. Their high resistance to proteolytic digestion, thus being probably primary sensitizers by ingestion, and association with systemic and severe clinical symptoms, have led to propose LTPs as a model of true food allergens. Peach Pru p 3, the prototypic member of the family, has been extensively studied at the biochemical, immunological and clinical level. IgE-binding regions of Pru p 3 have been identified by an experimental and modelling based approach. Additional key words: cross-reactivity, model allergen, plant defence protein, plant food allergy.

Hypoallergenic allergen derivatives of Pru p 3 for immunotherapy of IgE-mediated peach allergy
Background IgE-mediated allergy to peach represents a frequent cause of severe anaphylactic reactions in Mediterranean countries. Pru p 3, a nonspecific lipid transfer protein (LTP) from peach, was identified as an important elicitor of IgEmediated food hypersensitivity reactions to peach. Specific immunotherapy is currently the only allergen-specific and disease-modifying treatment of allergie...
متن کاملT-cell epitopes of the major peach allergen, Pru p 3: Identification and differential T-cell response of peach-allergic and non-allergic subjects.
Lipid transfer proteins (LTPs), particularly peach Pru p 3, are the most relevant plant food allergens in the South of Europe, and, therefore, their allergic properties have been extensively studied. However, neither T-cell epitopes nor their effect on the patients' T-cell response has been investigated in any member of the LTP panallergen family. The objective of the present study was to map t...
متن کاملPru p 3, a marker allergen for lipid transfer protein sensitization also in Central Europe
In the Mediterranean area, lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are important causes of plant-food allergies often associated with severe allergic reactions. There, peach LTP (Pru p 3) seems to be the primary sensitizer, whereas in Central Europe, little is known about the importance of LTP sensitization. In this region, allergen extract-based diagnosis is often complicated by co-sensitization to Bet...
متن کاملPeach allergy: different clinical profiles across Europe
Rosaceae fruit allergy is the most common food allergy in Europe in patients over 5 years of age. The two fruits most frequently involved are peach and apple. Different clinical phenotypes of peach allergy are observed across Europe in relation to different allergen sensitisation patterns to the peach allergens Pru p1 (Bet v 1 homologue), Pru p 3 (peach lipid transfer protein, LTP), and Pru p 4...
متن کاملSevere peach allergy in patients non-sensitized to Pru p 3
Background Allergy to Rosaceae is the fourth leading cause of food allergy in children in France. Typically, in Northern Europe, there is a prior sensitization to birch, through a PR-10 protein, while in Southern Europe the allergy is often preceded by a sensitization to a Lipid Transfer Protein (LTP). In Spain it is often recorded as a subsequent sensitization to apple (cross-reaction between ...
