Stock allocation in general multi - echelon distribution systems with ( R , S ) order - up - to - policies

چکیده
In this paper we analyze stock allocation policies in general N-echelon distribution systems, where it is allowed to hold stock at all levels in the network. The goal is to achieve differentiated target customer service levels (fill rates). Various allocation rules and accompanying numerical methods that have already been developed for smaller networks are extended and compared in an extensive numerical experiment. We conclude that the extension of Balanced Stock rationing (see Van der Heijden (1996)) is the most accurate method, in particular in cases of relatively high imbalance. If the imbalance is not too high, the extension of Consistent Appropriate Share rationing (see De Kok et al., 1994; Venijdt and De Kok, 1996) performs good as well. متن کاملA multi-item multi-echelon inventory system with quantity-based order consolidation
The efficient management of a distribution system requires coordination between transportation planning and inventory control. Small and frequent shipments can reduce inventory levels while maintaining high customer service levels, but they increase unit transportation costs due to inappropriate utilization of the vehicles and more handling costs. On the other hand shipment consolidation polici...
متن کاملEvaluating Echelon Stock (R, nQ) Policies in Serial Production/Inventory Systems with Stochastic Demand
T his paper studies echelon stock (R, nQ) policies in serial production/inventory systems with stochastic demand. We provide a recursive procedure to compute the steady state echelon inventory levels of the systems, which can be used to evaluate the long-run average holding and backorder costs as well as other performance measures. The procedure is based upon an observation of a relationship be...
متن کاملBi-product inventory planning in a three-echelon supply chain with backordering, Poisson demand, and limited warehouse space
In this paper, we apply continuous review (S-1, S) policy for inventory control in a three-echelon supply chain (SC) including r identical retailers, a central warehouse with limited storage space, and two independent manufacturing plants which offer two kinds of product to the customer. The warehouse of the model follows (M/M/1) queue model where customer demands follow a Poisson probabilit...
