چکیده
UNLABELLED Recent changes in the law concerning air gun ownership have made air guns a topical subject and many have called for even tighter restrictions. A case of accidental injury during play with an air rifle is described. It highlights the dental and soft tissue damage that can arise from an injury from such a 'toy' and outlines its subsequent management. CLINICAL RELEVANCE This case highlights the problems that any dental practitioner may have to deal with when faced with the consequences of air-pellet injuries.

OBJECTIVES To compare facial appearance and dento-alveolar relationship outcomes from the CSAG (1998) and CCUK (2013) studies. SETTING AND SAMPLE POPULATION Five-year-olds born with non-syndromic unilateral cleft lip and palate. Those in the original CSAG were treated in a dispersed model of care with low-volume operators. Those in CCUK were treated in a more centralized, high-volume operator...
متن کاملMinimal velocities necessary for perforation of skin by air gun pellets and bullets.
A series of tests were conducted to determine the velocities necessary for lead air gun pellets (calibers .177 and .22) and caliber .38 lead bullets to perforate skin. Human lower extremities were used. Caliber .177 air gun pellets weighing 8.25 grains required a minimum velocity of 101 m/s (331 ft/s) to perforate skin. The energy per area of presentation ratio E/a was 1:86 m X kg/cm2. Caliber ...

متن کاملMouthguard Design and Facial Skeletal Profile Effect on Respiratory Function in Athletes
Mouthguards provide protection from concussion, dento-alveolar injury, and fracture of the facial skeleton. It is also known that some facial skeletal forms do predispose patients to dental trauma. Facial profile type has a significant effect on breathing and airway patency. Many elite athletes refrain from wearing mouthguards during contact sports because of a belief that they make breathing d...
