The pion mass in finite volume

چکیده
We determine the relative pion mass shift Mπ(L)/Mπ − 1 due to the finite spatial extent L of the box by means of two-flavor chiral perturbation theory and the one-particle Lüscher formula. We use as input the expression for the infinite volume ππ forward scattering amplitude up to next-to-next-to-leading order and can therefore control the convergence of the chiral series. A comparison to the full leading order chiral expression for the pion mass in finite volume allows us to check the size of subleading terms in the large-L expansion.

The pion mass in finite volume to two loops
We evaluate the pion mass in finite volume to two loops within Chiral Perturbation Theory. The results are compared with a recently proposed extension of the asymptotic formula of Lüscher. We find that contributions, which were neglected in the latter, are numerically very small at the two-loop level. The pion mass in finite volume to two loops Christoph Haefeli
متن کاملThe pion and proton mass in finite volume
We calculate the finite volume effects for the pion and nucleon mass. For the pion mass we present the results of a full two-loop calculation in chiral perturbation theory. The outcome shows that the resummed version of the Lüscher formula we presented in an earlier work does indeed give an excellent approximation to the two-loop result. In view of this result we apply the same resummed formula...

We evaluate the pion mass in finite volume to two loops within Chiral Perturbation Theory. The results are compared with a recently proposed extension of the asymptotic formula of Lüscher. We find that contributions, which were neglected in the latter, are numerically very small at the two–loop level and conclude that for MπL & 2, L ≥ 2fm the finite volume effects in the meson sector are analyt...
متن کاملOn the finite size mass shift formula for stable particles
Lüscher’s finite size mass shift formula in a periodic finite volume, involving forward scattering amplitudes in the infinite volume, is revisited for the two stable distinguishable particle system. The generalized mass shift formulae for the boson and fermion are derived in the boson-boson and fermion-boson systems, respectively. The nucleon mass shift formula is given in the nucleon-pion syst...
متن کاملVolume dependence of the pion mass
Volume effects on meson masses are important for understanding the results of QCD lattice simulations, which are still limited to large meson masses and small volumes. Such finite volume effects have been studied in different approaches [2, 3, 4], mainly using chiral perturbation theory (chPT) . Since quark effects involving higher momentum scales also seem to play a role [5], we study the pion...
