Evolution of Metal Surface Topography during Fatigue

چکیده
Changes in surface topography reflect the state of fatigue damage. In this paper, a new method to characterize metal surface topography during fatigue has been proposed. Firstly, we acquired surface topography images based on machine vision and separated them into roughness, waviness, and form error images through a shearlet transform. Secondly, we constructed gray co-occurrence matrixes of the obtained surface topography images and calculated the characteristic parameters, such as contrast, correlation coefficient, energy, and entropy for all the original and separated images. Then, taking a Q235 steel specimen as an example for testing, the experimental results and theoretical analysis demonstrate that the parameter contrast increases while energy, correlation coefficient and entropy decrease gradually with number of loading circles, which reach their maximum and minimums before fracture, respectively.

Fatigue Damage Evolution in Silicon Films for Micromechanical Applications
In this paper we examine the conditions for surface topography evolution and crack growth/fracture during the cyclic actuation of polysilicon microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) structures. The surface topography evolution that occurs during cyclic fatigue is shown to be stressassisted and may be predicted by linear perturbation analyses. The conditions for crack growth (due to pre-existing o...

Over the last few decades, there have been many mechanisms proposed to describe the formation of the non-dendritic microstructures during Semisolid Metal (SSM) processing; including dendrite fragmentation, spherical growth, cellular growth and recalescence. Dendrite fragmentation is the most popular mechanism of all these hypotheses. It is the purpose of the present article to examine the morph...
متن کاملMicrostructure Evolution during Electric Current Induced Thermomechanical Fatigue of Interconnects
We demonstrate the evolution of microstructure and deformation associated with the use of electrical methods for evaluating mechanical reliability of patterned interconnects on rigid substrates. Thermomechanical fatigue in aluminum and copper interconnects was induced by means of low frequency (100 Hz), high density (> 10 MA/cm) alternating currents, which caused cyclic Joule heating and associ...

Since the sub-axis of machine tool spindles subjected to fatigue loading, the effects of different surface heat treatments on fatigue behavior of 16MnCr5 steel have been investigated in the current work. After the test specimens were prepared from the steel, the surface heat treatments; carburizing, carbonitriding and a practical type of treatment involving the first nitriding then carburizing ...

Abrasive waterjet (AWJ) peening is a new mechanical surface treatment process envisioned for use on metal orthopedic implants. The process utilizes an abrasive waterjet to simultaneously texture and work harden the surface of a metal substrate through controlled hydrodynamic erosion. In this study, a titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) was subjected to AWJ peening over a range of parametric conditions. Th...
