چکیده

We report on 293 quasars with strong N iv] λ1486 or N iii] λ1750 emission lines (rest-frame equivalent width > 3 Å) at 1.7 < z < 4.0 selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Fifth Data Release. These nitrogen-rich (N-rich) objects comprise ∼ 1.1% of the SDSS quasars. The comparison between the N-rich quasars and other quasars shows that the two quasar subsets share many common properties. We also confirm previous results that N-rich quasars have much stronger Lyα and Nv λ1240 emission lines. Strong nitrogen emission in all ionization states indicates high overall nitrogen abundances in these objects. We find evidence that the nitrogen abundance is closely related to quasar radio properties. The radio-loud fraction in the N iii]-rich quasars is 26% and in the N iv]-rich quasars is 69%, significantly higher than ∼ 8% measured in other quasars with similar redshift and luminosity. Therefore, the high nitrogen abundance in N-rich quasars could be an indicator of a special quasar evolution stage, in which the radio activity is also strong. Double Lobed Radio Quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

We have combined a sample of 44 984 quasars, selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 3, with the FIRST radio survey. Using a novel technique where the optical quasar position is matched to the complete radio environment within 450, we are able to characterize the radio morphological make-up of what is essentially an optically selected quasar sample, regardless of whether ...

quasars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Early Data Release

We have compiled a sample of 21 low redshift (z . 0.3), luminous active galactic nuclei (AGN) with large Balmer decrements (Hα/Hβ > 7) using the galaxy and QSO catalogs of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Early Data Release. Using this sample we attempt to determine the fraction of quasars with large internal absorption. We find that these AGN have Strong [O III] λ5007 and broad Hα emission, and th...

The Origin and Evolution of C iv Baldwin Effect in QSOs from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

Using a large sample of 26623 quasars with redshifts in the range 1.5 ≤ z ≤ 5.1 with C iv λ1549 Å emission line in Fifth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), we investigate the cosmological evolution of the Baldwin Effect, i.e. the relation between the equivalent width (EW) of the C iv emission line and continuum luminosity. We confirm the earlier result that there exists a stro...

Are Optically-selected Quasars Universally X-ray Luminous? X-ray/uv Relations in Sloan Digital Sky Survey Quasars

We analyze archived Chandra and XMM-Newton X-ray observations of 536 Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 5 (DR5) quasars (QSOs) at 1.7 ≤ z ≤ 2.7 in order to characterize the relative UV and X-ray spectral properties of QSOs that do not have broad UV absorption lines (BALs). We constrain the fraction of X-ray weak, non-BAL QSOs and find that such objects are rare; for example, sources u...

High-redshift Sdss Quasars with Weak Emission Lines

We identify a sample of 74 high-redshift quasars (z> 3) with weak emission lines from the Fifth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and present infrared, optical, and radio observations of a subsample of four objects at z > 4. These weak emission-line quasars (WLQs) constitute a prominent tail of the Lyα+N V equivalent width distribution, and we compare them to quasars with more typica...
