Nature’s Configuration of Melanoma Colonies in Pulmonary Parenchyma: Historical Lessons
نویسنده
چکیده
In 1889, the great German pathologist, Julius Conheim, pronounced that necropsy reveals Nature’s footsteps in cancer colonization as opposed to animal experimentation. Accordingly, the easily discernible pathways of the highly colonized melanoma are worthy of tracing as regards the configuration of the colonies formed in the lungs. Perhaps, the historical aspects are best evaluated with reports published in the 19th Century Transactions of the Pathological Society of London. The historical lessons from their vivid descriptions are worthy of record selectively.

Mediation of reduction of spontaneous and experimental pulmonary metastases by ricin A-chain immunotoxin 45-2D9-RTA with potentiation by systemic monensin in mice.
We developed a model to assess the therapeutic effects of the 45-2D9-ricin A-chain immunotoxin (RTA) on pulmonary metastases. The 45-2D9 mouse monoclonal antibody recognizes a Mr 74,000 glycoprotein highly expressed by rat fibroblasts transformed with the Kirsten sarcoma virus (transformed rat fibroblasts). These cells metastasize spontaneously and form lung colonies in nu/nu and irradiated BAL...

Unilateral Pulmonary Artery Agenesis (UPAA) is a rare congenital anomaly during the 4 th week of gestational age. It is defined as an absence of pulmonary parenchyma and its supporting artery. A 9-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital because of chronic cough. Chest examination showed a decrement in lung sound of right hemi-thorax with expiratory wheeze. Chest radiography (CXR) revealed a...

Some of them, while enjoying considerable glory and high level of economic and political power, have sometimes been declined and finally overthrown. Having these points in mind, the main questions are prese...
متن کاملHistorical appreciation of The Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical Society’s meeting on melanoma metastases
In 1889, the famous German Pathologist, Julius Cohnheim, postulated that the findings from tumor autopsy are explicable on natural principles. Within the next decade, members of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical Society with Dr. Flexner in the Chair dealt with a case that demonstrated the above dictum of Cohnheim. It is proposed here to appreciate historically what happened at the Meeting of F...

In these days of supercomputer-based global climate models, large ecosystem experiments including Biosphere II, and aircraft-borne sensors of ozone holes, it is often overlooked that many fundamental insights into ecological processes and major environmental issues come not through reductionist or high tech studies of modern conditions but from thoughtful consideration of nature’s history (Fost...
