GAG (gaining angle of gaze) strategy for ball tracking and catching task

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a ball tracking and catching strategy called GAG (short for “gaining angle of gaze”) that enables a mobile robot to track and catch a ball flying in three-dimensional space. The GAG strategy does not require the information of the ball’s position in three-dimensional space, but instead requires only the angle of elevation of gaze captured as two-dimensional visual information. We also derive a visual feedback control scheme based on GAG and demonstrate that the proposed scheme enables the robot to track and catch a ball flying in threedimensional space by using only a monocular vision system.

Eye Movements and the Selection of Optical Information for Catching
The direction of gaze during a single-ball throwing and catching task was analyzed to generate hypotheses regarding the optical information that participants used. Five intermediate and 5 expert jugglers threw and caught a single ball continuously with 1 hand while wearing a head-mounted eye tracker to monitor their direction of gaze. Participants were instructed to throw the ball at 3 self-pac...
متن کاملExamination of ball tracking and catching task using a monocular vision-based mobile robot
This paper presents an implementation of a ball catching task using a monocular vision-based mobile robot. We have proposed a motion strategy for catching a ball flying in three-dimensional space. This strategy has its roots in the field of experimental psychology but is more powerful and concentrated on a robot. A practical trajectory control law is derived for a non-holonomic mobile robot to ...
متن کاملQuiet eye distinguishes children of high and low motor coordination abilities.
PURPOSE This is the first study to use the quiet eye (QE) as an objective measure of visuomotor control underpinning proficiency differences in children's motor coordination. METHODS Fifty-seven, year 5 primary school children (9-10 yr old) completed the Movement Assessment Battery for Children, Second Edition (MABC-2), while wearing a gaze registration system. Participants were subsequently ...
متن کاملGaze Behavior in One-Handed Catching and Its Relation with Interceptive Performance: What the Eyes Can't Tell
In ball sports, it is usually acknowledged that expert athletes track the ball more accurately than novices. However, there is also evidence that keeping the eyes on the ball is not always necessary for interception. Here we aimed at gaining new insights on the extent to which ocular pursuit performance is related to catching performance. To this end, we analyzed eye and head movements of nine ...
متن کاملIncreased Throwing Accuracy Improves Children's Catching Performance in a Ball-Catching Task from the Movement Assessment Battery (MABC-2)
The Movement Assessment Battery for Children (MABC-2) is a functional test for identifying deficits in the motor performance of children. The test contains a ball-catching task that requires the children to catch a self-thrown ball with one hand. As the task can be executed with a variety of different catching strategies, it is assumed that the task success can also vary considerably. Even thou...
