Coronado A. 2006. Ixodiphagus hookeri Howard, 1907 (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) in the brown dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus Latreille, 1806 (Acari: Ixodidae) in Venezuela. Entomotropica 21(1):61-64. Nymphs of the ixodid tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus were found naturally infected by the tiny wasp Ixodiphagus hookeri. The parasitism resulted in the death of the host ticks, as cause of ingestion of abdominal host tissues by the wasps. This fact confirms the potential role of the encyrtid in controlling ticks affecting man and animals. This report describes for the first time the presence of I. hookeri in the dog tick R. sanguineus in Venezuela. Additional key words: biological control, integrated pest management, veterinary. Resumen Coronado A. 2006.

Toxicity of extract of Magonia pubescens (Sapindales: Sapindaceae) St. Hil. to control the brown dog tick, Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latreille) (Acari: Ixodidae).
The action of crude ethanol extract of the stem bark of the soapberry Magonia pubescens St. Hil. was studied upon larvae of the Brown Dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latreille). Tick larvae were obtained by maintaining gravid females in an incubator, after collecting them from naturally infested kennels. The tick larvae were placed in envelopes of filter paper impregnated with different conc...

A case of attachment and complete engorgement of a Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latreille, 1806) nymph on a woman with severe pain shortly before nymphal drop-off is described. The pain continued for about 2 weeks after tick removal. Apparently, this is the first documented case of human adverse reaction developed at the very last stage of engorgement of nymphal R. sanguineus. The infestation most...

We report the finding of a female brown dog tick, Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Acari: Ixodidae) on the scalp of a male patient inPorto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Human parasitism by this tick is rare and has seldomly been reported in the literature, despite its recognized importance since it can act as a vector of Rickettsia rickettsii, the agent of spotted fever.
متن کاملRhipicephalus sanguineus (Acari: Ixodidae), the brown dog tick, parasitizing humans in Brazil.
The objective of this paper is to describe four cases of human parasitism by Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Latrielle) in Brazil. During an investigation regarding the species of ectoparasites of domestic dogs from the metropolitan region of Recife, Pernambuco state, four dog owners were found to be parasitized by ticks. The ticks were collected from these individuals and their dogs. All the ticks w...

Rhipicephalus sanguineus are bloodsucking ectoparasites, whose main host is the domestic dog, thus being present in urban areas and closely located to people. Eventually, this tick species parasitize humans and can become a potential vector of infectious diseases. Methods to control this type of pest have been the focus of many research groups worldwide. The use of natural products is increasin...
