چکیده

In this paper, we tried to develop a vowel training assistant method using vowel formant statistics. Formant statistics were obtained from PBW set consists of 452 words from 8 persons. Then, we calculated distance from input formants to each center of vowel formant space. Based on the distance, directions to correct the speaker's manner of articulations, i.e. position of jaw and tongue.

Second and fourth order statistics-based reduced polynomial rooting direction finding algorithms

Polynomial rooting direction finding (DF) algorithms are a computationally efficient alternative to search based DF algorithms and are particularly suitable for uniform linear arrays (ULA) of physically identical elements provided mutual interaction among the array elements can be either neglected or compensated for. A popular algorithm in such situations is Root MUSIC (RM) wherein the estimati...

Vowel classification for computer-based visual feedback for speech training for the hearing impaired

A visual speech training aid for persons with hearing impairments has been developed using a Windows-based multimedia computer. The training aid provides real time visual feedback as to the quality of pronunciation for 10 steady-state American English monopthong vowels (/aa/, /iy/, /uw/, /ae/, /er/, /ih/, /eh/, /ao/, /ah/, and /uh/). This training aid is thus referred to as a Vowel Articulation...

Mutual influences between native and non-native vowels in production: Evidence from short-term visual articulatory feedback training

We studied mutual influences between native and non-native vowel production during learning, i.e., before and after short-term visual articulatory feedback training with non-native sounds. Monolingual French speakers were trained to produce two non-native vowels: the Danish /ɔ/, which is similar to the French /o/, and the Russian /ɨ/, which is dissimilar from French vowels. We examined relation...

Microsoft Word - paper6.docx

For the problem of coherent and uncorrelated signals direction finding under impulsive noise, an efficient method is designed. Firstly, a threshold value was established according to a novel adaptive algorithm. Secondly, all the amplitude in the received data that is higher than the threshold value, was replaced by the threshold value. Finally, the classical methods based on second-order statis...

Recognition of Handwritten Marathi Vowels using Zone based Symmetric Density Features

In this paper, a zone based symmetric density feature is proposed to recognize Handwritten Marathi Vowels. Recognition of handwritten Marathi vowels is a challenging task due to their interclass structural similarities. This paper describes a method for recognition of handwritten Marathi vowels. Since a standard database does not exist for handwritten Marathi vowels, as a part of this work data...
