چکیده

We describe linac protection and a conventional collimation system appqxiate for a next linear collider. The linac accelerating structure can be protected from “worst credible failures” by a system of sacrificial spoilers. For the collimation system we consider the effects of asverse wakefields and the transmission, heating, mechanical stress, and edge-scattering properties of scrapers. We require local chromatic correction, scraper Survival for two pulses of a mis-steered beam containing 0.5 x lo’* particles per pulse, average interception capability of 1% of the beam at any scraper, and zero particles incident on the final doubla in the final focus system. We describe emittance dependent limitations of this system and present fonnulae which determine scraper gaps. Conventional collimation systems appear adequate to collimate the beams of next generation 0.5 and 1.0 TeV c.m. linear colliders. Though we have combined functional units where possible to reduce total length, the length of our lattices for these systems are longer than 1 km-per linac. _

Studies on Nonlinear Post-linac Protection for Clic

The post-linac energy collimation system of CLIC is designed to fulfil an essential function of protection of the Beam Delivery System (BDS) against miss-steered beams generated by failure modes in the main linac. Guaranteeing the collimator survivability in case of direct beam impact is very challenging, if we take into account the need to deal with an unprecedented transverse energy density p...

New Post-Linac Collimation System for the Next Linear Collider

We present a new design for the NLC post-linac collimation system. The new design separates the collimation of off-energy particles and particles with large betatron amplitudes. The energy collimation system achieves passive protection against damage by an errant bunch train via large horizontal dispersion and vertical betatron functions, and makes use of optical symmetries to reduce jitter amp...

Studies of Beam Optics and Scattering in the next Linear Collider Post-linac Collimation System

We present a new conceptual and optical design for the Next Linear Collider post-linac collimation system. Energy collimation and passive protection against off-energy beams are achieved in a system with large horizontal dispersion and vertical betatron functions. Betatron collimation is performed in a relatively low-beta (FODO-like) lattice in which only thin spoilers intercept particles near ...

Development of a prototype stereotactic collimation assembly for Neptun 10 PC linac

Background: A set of hardware stereotactic radiosurgery is designed and constructed. The scope of this article is to describe how we have designed and developed stereotactic collimation assembly for a 9 MV Neptun 10 PC linac. Materials and methods: One collimator holder and six collimators were made, with their radiation field diameter between 12.5 mm to 25 mm at isocenter level. Beam data, suc...

The TESLA Post-linac Collimation System

1 Introduction In high-energy physics colliders, the 'halo' particles surrounding the core of the beams would cause intolerable background in the physics detectors if not removed. Collima-tion systems consisting of mechanical 'spoilers' on the order of a radiation length are placed close to the beam and used to 'scrape' the halo particles off: the particles scattered by the spoilers are then co...
