چکیده

The use of ensemble models in many problem domains has increased significantly in the last few years. The ensemble modeling, in particularly boosting, has shown a great promise in improving predictive performance of a model. Combining the ensemble members is normally done in a co–operative fashion where each of the ensemble members performs the same task and their predictions are aggregated to obtain the improved performance. However, it is also possible to combine the ensemble members in a competitive fashion where the best prediction of a relevant ensemble member is selected for a particular input. This option has been previously somewhat overlooked. The aim of this article is to investigate and compare the competitive and co–operative approaches to combining the models in the ensemble. A comparison is made between a competitive ensemble model and that of MARS with bagging, mixture of experts, hierarchical mixture of experts and a neural network ensemble over several public domain regression problems that have a high degree of nonlinearity and noise. The empirical results show a substantial advantage of competitive learning versus the co–operative learning for all the regression problems investigated. The requirements for creating the efficient ensembles and the available guidelines are also discussed.

Ensemble Kernel Learning Model for Prediction of Time Series Based on the Support Vector Regression and Meta Heuristic Search

In this paper, a method for predicting time series is presented. Time series prediction is a process which predicted future system values based on information obtained from past and present data points. Time series prediction models are widely used in various fields of engineering, economics, etc. The main purpose of using different models for time series prediction is to make the forecast with...

Bagging Ensemble Selection for Regression

Bagging ensemble selection (BES) is a relatively new ensemble learning strategy. The strategy can be seen as an ensemble of the ensemble selection from libraries of models (ES) strategy. Previous experimental results on binary classification problems have shown that using random trees as base classifiers, BES-OOB (the most successful variant of BES) is competitive with (and in many cases, super...

Presentation of new ensemble method of Bayesian and logistic regression models in landslide susceptibility assessment in the Khalkhal Township

The aim of current research is to assess of landslide susceptibility in the Khalkhal Township, southern Ardabil using an ensemble and new method namely Bayesian and logistic regression (BT-LR) models. At first, landslide inventory map was prepared and then effective factors on landslide occurrence were identified. These factors are slope degree, plan curvature, slope aspect, elevation, landuse,...

Solving Large Regression Problems using an Ensemble of GPU-accelerated ELMs

This paper presents an approach that allows for performing regression on large data sets in reasonable time. The main component of the approach consists in speeding up the slowest operation of the used algorithm by running it on the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) of the video card, instead of the processor (CPU). The experiments show a speedup of an order of magnitude by using the GPU, and comp...

Ensemble of M5 Model Tree Based Modelling of Sodium Adsorption Ratio

This work reports the results of four ensemble approaches with the M5 model tree as the base regression model to anticipate Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR). Ensemble methods that combine the output of multiple regression models have been found to be more accurate than any of the individual models making up the ensemble. In this study additive boosting, bagging, rotation forest and random subspace...
