Computational Testbeds for Coordination Games∗

چکیده
We propose a decision making process meant to mimic human behavior. This process is implemented with computational agents. We use this computational testbed to run simulations of two coordination games, the minimum-effort coordination game and the battle of the sexes game. We find that the computational agents exhibit behavior similar to human subjects from previous experimental work. We then use the computational testbed to develop experimental hypotheses, which are then confirmed in the laboratory using human subjects. In particular, we show show that higher cost may actually lead to higher average payoffs in the minimumeffort coordination game. JEL classification: C63, C73, C91, C92

Using a computational testbed, we theoretically predict and experimentally show that in the minimum effort coordination game, as the cost of effort increases, 1) the game converges to lower effort levels, 2) the convergence speed increases, and 3) the average payoff is not monotonically decreasing. In fact, the average profit is an U-shaped curve as a function of cost. Therefore, contrary to th...
متن کاملCooperative Benefit and Cost Games under Fairness Concerns
Solution concepts in cooperative games are based on either cost games or benefit games. Although cost games and benefit games are strategically equivalent, that is not the case in general for solution concepts. Motivated by this important observation, a new property called invariance property with respect to benefit/cost allocation is introduced in this paper. Since such a property can be regar...
متن کاملAn Option-Revenue Sharing Coordination Contract with Price and Sales Effort Dependent Demand
This study proposes a novel option-revenue sharing coordination contract framework. In the proposed model, the retailer determines the number of order sales effort. The manufacturer sets the price of products for the wholesale strategy. The investigated supply chain problem analyzes the results of different strategies. In the proposed coordination contract problem, two types of games including ...

Some of the more complex AI testbeds are not that different from computer games. It seems that both sides, AI and game design, could pro t from each other's technology. We go a rst step in this direction by presenting a very general agent control architecture (HAC: Hierarchical Agent Control), a toolkit for designing an action hierarchy. It supports action abstraction, a multi-level computation...
متن کاملComputational Intelligence in Racing Games
This chapter surveys the research of us and others into applying evolutionary algorithms and other forms of computational intelligence to various aspects of racing games. We first discuss the various roles of computational intelligence in games, and then go on to describe the evolution of different types of car controllers, modelling of players’ driving styles, evolution of racing tracks, compa...
