چکیده

The production of pharmaceuticals in a ‘green’ way is a concern in the recent years. In this work, we have examined an oxidation reaction in a continuous flow supercritical CO2 system using individual CLEA (Cross Linked Enzyme Aggregate) of cholesterol oxidase and combi-CLEA of cholesterol oxidase and catalase. Besides the activity studies, the research was aimed to be extended to kinetic studies and modelling of the system to optimise the flow of H2O2 between the two enzymes and the production of cholestenone. The reaction examined is the oxidation of cholesterol (Scheme 1). Cholesterol oxidase (chox) catalyses the oxidation of cholesterol using O2 to 4-cholesen-3-one, a precursor of interest in the pharmaceutical industry. H2O2 is produced as by-product which can be reduced to water and oxygen using the enzyme catalase. The elimination of H2O2 is important as it can inhibit the first reaction.

One nanometre wide carbon nanoreactors are utilised as the reaction vessel for catalytic chemical reactions on a preparative scale. Sub-nanometre ruthenium catalytic particles which are encapsulated solely within single-walled carbon nanotubes offering a unique reaction environment are shown to be active when embedded in a supercritical CO2 continuous flow reactor. A range of hydrogenation reac...

Development of a Novel Catalytic Membrane Reactor for Heterogeneous Catalysis in Supercritical CO2

A novel type of high-pressure membrane reactor has been developed for hydrogenation in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO(2)). The main objectives of the design of the reactor are the separate feeding of hydrogen and substrate in scCO(2) for safe reactions in a continuous flow process, and to reduce the reaction time. By using this new reactor, hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde into hydrocinnamal...

Modeling Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Injection in Heterogeneous Porous Media

We investigate the physical processes that occur during the sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in liquid-saturated, brine-bearing geologic formations using the numerical simulator TOUGH2. CO2 is injected in a supercritical state that has a much lower density and viscosity than the liquid brine it displaces. In situ, the supercritical CO2 forms a gas-like phase, and also partially dissolves i...
