Spectral elements and field separation for an acoustic fluid subject to cavitation

چکیده
Spectral elements based on Legendre polynomials are used to improve an existing finite-element method for simulating a highly nonlinear field phenomenon: fluid cavitation in an underwater-shock environment. Further improvement is provided by separation of the total field into its equilibrium, incident, and scattered components. These enhancements promise to make the finite-element method suitable for practical, three-dimensional engineering computations. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

A spectral-element method for modelling cavitation in transient fluid-structure interaction
In an underwater-shock environment, cavitation (boiling) occurs as a result of reflection of the shock wave from the free surface and/or wetted structure causing the pressure in the water to fall below its vapour pressure. If the explosion is sufficiently distant from the structure, the motion of the fluid surrounding the structure may be assumed small, which allows linearization of the governi...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Particle Separation in the Fluid Flow in a Microchannel Including Spiral and Acoustic Regions
Particulate separation has many applications in medicine, biology and industry. In this research, the separation of polystyrene particles with a diameter of 10, 20 and 30 μm in the fluid flow of a microchannel is investigated. The microchannel consists of a spiral region and a straight region under the influence of acoustic waves. In the spiral region, the particles under hydrodynamic effects u...
متن کاملNumerical Solution for Gate Induced Vibration Due to Under Flow Cavitation
Among the many force s to which hydraulic structures are exposed to, the forces induced by cavitation incident are of typical hydrodynamic unknown forces. The aim of this study is to define these forces as coupled fluid-structure interaction under two dynamic effects. The first dynamic effect which incorporates facilities for dealing with cavitation fluid is based on the appearance and bursting...
متن کاملEffect of non-uniform Magnetic Field on Non-Newtonian Fluid Separation in a Diffuser
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the boundary layer separation point in a magnetohydrodynamics diffuser. As an innovation, the Re value on the separation point is determined for the non-Newtonian fluid flow under the influence of the non-uniform magnetic field due to an electrical solenoid, in an empirical case. The governing equations include continuity and momentum are solve...
متن کاملAn overview of therapeutic applications of ultrasound based on synergetic effects with gold nanoparticles and laser excitation
Acoustic cavitation which occurs at high intensities of ultrasound waves can be fatal for tumor cells. The existence of dissolved gases and also the presence of nanoparticles (NPs) in a liquid, irradiated by ultrasound, decrease the acoustic cavitation onset threshold and the resulting bubbles collapse. On the other hand, due to unique capabilities and optical properties of gold nanoparticles (...
