Position Statement: Event-Based Control

چکیده

Periodic sampling and control has been the dominating paradigm in computer-controlled systems since the 1950s. The periodic approach is very convenient, since it enables the system developer to base the analysis and design on standard sampled-data control theory real-time systems theory. While convenient, periodic control does not utilize the system resources in an optimum way. Sensor values and control actions are communicated every period regardless of whether anything significant has occurred in the system. By contrast, in an event-based control system, signals are calculated and communicated “on demand”. Preliminary results on stochastic control of first-order systems [2, 3] indicate that eventbased control may require only a fraction of the computation and communication bandwidth compared to periodic control to achieve the same performance.

Road Departure Avoidance System Based on the Driver Decision Estimator

In this paper a robust road departure avoidance system based on a closed-loop driver decision estimator (DDE) is presented. The main idea is that of incorporating the driver intent in the control of the vehicle. The driver decision estimator computes the vehicle look ahead lateral position based on the driver input and uses this position to establish the risk of road departure. To induce a risk...
