چکیده

I. A test was carried out simultaneously in Shinfield, Reading, England, and Columbus, Ohio, USA, using typical British and American rations for growing pigs. The rations were compounded in their country of origin ; half of each consignment was used at the home station and the other half shipped to the overseas station. 2. Both restricted feeding and ad lib. feeding methods were used at each station. 3. A similar pattern of results was obtained at Shinfield and Columbus. Pigs receiving the American ration, which was higher in energy content, grew faster and required less feed per kg live-weight gain than pigs receiving the British ration. The higher energy content of the ration was probably responsible also for the poorer carcass quality of the pigs receiving the American ration, particularly the high fat content. The comparison between restricted feeding and ad lib. feeding was not affected by the type of ration. Restricted feeding resulted in slower growth rate, slightly better efficiency of feed conversion and considerably better carcass quality.

Value of corozo palm nut and sesame oil meals, bananas, A.P.F. and cow manure in rations for growing and fattening pigs.

I~TIS is a preliminary report of a series of studies in the American ropics on the nutritional value of local feedstuffs for growing and fattening pigs. Malnutrition in animals is a major problem in these tropical areas. Apparently the problem is related to inadequate storage and transportation facilities, the lack of regulation in feed production, and insufficient experimentation on the nutrit...

Native EFL Raters’ Criteria in Assessing the Speech Act of Complaint: The Case of American and British EFL Teachers

Despite the importance of interlanguage pragmatic rating (ILP) in the second language teaching and learning context, scant attention has been devoted to it. This study aims to investigate native EFL teachers’ major criteria in assessing the speech act of complaint produced by Iranian EFL learners. To fulfill this end, two groups of experienced native raters, including American (n=47) and Britis...

Vitamin B12 content of piglets and of milk from sows fed on rations containing animal or vegetable protein.

In recent years we have attempted to produce pigs 3-5 weeks old deficient in vitamin BIZ. The pigs were removed from the sow at 2 days of age and reared on a vitamin B,,-deficient synthetic-milk diet of the composition described by Neumann, Johnson & Thiersch (1950). Unlike the American workers, we were unable to produce such deficient pigs under our conditions and considered that differences i...

An Investigation of the Online Farsi Translation of Metadiscourse Markers in American Presidential Debates

The term metadiscourse rarely appears in translation studies despite the continuously growing body of research on discourse markers in different genres and through various perspectives. Translation as a product that needs to observe such markers for their communicative power and contribution to the overall coherence of a text within a context has not been satisfactorily studied. Motivated by su...

Apparent ileal dry matter and crude protein digestibility of rations fed to pigs and determined with the use of chromic oxide (Cr2O3) and acid-insoluble ash as digestive markers.

Two experiments were conducted to determine apparent ileal DM and crude-protein (CP) digestibilities in rations fed to pigs. An evaluation was made of Cr2O3 and HCl-insoluble ash as digestive markers. In addition, the effects of body weight (BW) on apparent ileal DM and CP (N x 6.25) digestibilities were studied. In Expt 1, thirteen barrows averaging 35 kg BW were fitted with post-valve T-caecu...
