چکیده

Short-range digital communications at 60GHz have recently received a lot of interest because of the huge bandwidth available at those frequencies. The capacity offered to the users could finally reach 2Gbps, enabling the deployment of new multimedia applications. However, the design of analog components is critical, leading to a possible high nonideality of the front end (FE). The goal of this paper is to compare the suitability of two different air interfaces characterized by a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) to support communications at 60GHz. On one hand, we study the offset-QPSK (OQPSK) modulation combined with a channel frequency-domain equalization (FDE). On the other hand, we study the class of continuous phase modulations (CPM) combined with a channel time-domain equalizer (TDE). We evaluate their performance in terms of bit error rate (BER) considering a typical indoor propagation environment at 60GHz. For both air interfaces, we analyze the degradation caused by the phase noise (PN) coming from the local oscillators; and by the clipping and quantization errors caused by the analog-to-digital converter (ADC); and finally by the nonlinearity in the PA.

Ultra Wideband Channel Model for IEEE 802.15.4a and Performance Comparison of DBPSK/OQPSK Systems

Ultra Wideband (UWB) is a radio technology that can be used at very low energy levels for short-range high-bandwidth communications by using a large portion of the radio spectrum. Ultra Wideband (UWB) systems transmit signals across a much wider frequency than conventional systems and are usually very difficult to detect. The focus of this research is to model the Ultra wideband (UWB) channel f...

Conical Conformal Antenna Design using the CPM Method for MIMO Systems

Abstract- In this article, the design of conformal antennas has been discussed using the characteristic modes (CM) method. For this purpose, the vector wave function(VWF) has been utilized to achieve a two-dimensional mapping of the conformal antenna. In designing and analyzing of cone-shaped antennas applicable for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems, the most important goal is to achieve ...

A Novel Small E–Ring Shaped Monopole Antenna with Dual Band-Notch Function for UWB Wireless Communications

This paper presents an E-ring shaped printed monopole antenna for UWB applications with dual notched bands performance. In order to generate single frequency band notch function, we applied a U-ring shaped monopole antenna, and by inserting a rectangular ring in the centre of it an E-ring shaped radiating patch created and a dual band-notch function can be achieved. The measured bandwidth of th...

System Implications in Designing a 60 GHz WLAN RF Front-End

In this paper, we seek to evaluate the performance of a 60 GHz WLAN system taking into account RF circuitry imperfections and hardware requirements for various modulation techniques. A model of an RF frontend is developed, including physical imperfections of the circuitry such as power amplifier (PA) nonlinearity and voltage controlled oscillator VCO phase noise. Given the RF front-end model, s...

A 300 GHz CMOS Transmitter Front-End for Ultrahigh-Speed Wireless Communications

This paper presents a 300 GHz transmitter front-end suitable for ultrahigh-speed wireless communications. The transmitter front-end realized in TSMC 40 nm CMOS consists of a common-source (CS) based doubler driven by a two-way D-band power amplifier (PA). Simulation results show that the two-way D-band PA obtains a peak gain of 21.6 dB over a -3 dB bandwidth from 132 GHz to 159 GHz. It exhibits...
