چکیده

Brachial artery is the main artery supplying the upper limb. Variations in brachial artery are so many that it becomes a rule rather than an exception. A study was done to note the variations in the relation of median nerve to brachial artery. A total of 95 upper limbs (51 Right, 44 Left), with a mean arm length of 30.82 cms, were studied. In 11 of the limbs (11.57%) median nerve was noted to course posterior (deep) to brachial artery (Superficial Brachial Artery, SBA). Out of these 11 limbs, 6 (54.54%) belonged to right side and 5 (45.45%) belonged to left side. In 9 of these limbs (81.81%), median nerve coursed posterior to brachial artery in the middle 1/3 of the arm, whereas in 2 of the limbs (18.18%), crossing took place at the junction of middle and lower 1/3 of the arm. In 5 (45.45%) of these limbs brachial artery terminated normally, whereas in the remaining 6 (54.54%) trifurcation of brachial artery was noted. A significant association (χ=29.971, P=0.003) was found between the type of terminal branches of brachial artery and level of crossing of median nerve in relation to arm segment. This anatomical knowledge of variations in the relation of median nerve to brachial artery is of great clinical significance to general surgeons, vascular surgeons and orthopaedicians and helps in preventing iatrogenic injuries.

Variation in Bifurcation Pattern of Brachial Artery

Recognizing the arterial variations of human upper extremities is of potential clinical practice because this area is involved in arterial handling and invasive medical procedure. During dissection of the left upper limb of a 35-year-old male embalmed cadaver, we saw brachial artery bifurcation in the middle third of proximal portion of the arm. Its medial branch descended along the medial side...

Rare variations in the formation of median nerve--embryological basis and clinical significance.

During routine dissection in the Department of Anatomy, CMS, Nepal, anomalous median nerves with regard to their formation were found in three different adult male cadavers. In one cadaver, there was variation in the formation of the median nerve and its relation with the axillary artery. Another cadaver revealed the formation of the median nerve by three roots, while in the third one, the medi...

Variation in relation of cords of brachial plexus and their branches with axillary and brachial arteries--a case report.

Anatomical variations in the formation, course and distribution of brachial plexus are well documented. The present report describes some rare variations with regard to relation of cords of brachial plexus, median and ulnar nerves with the third part of axillary artery and brachial artery in the left upper limb of an adult male cadaver. All three cords of brachial plexus were noted to be latera...

Case Report: A Case Report on Variation in Bifurcation of Brachial Artery

Variations in arterial anatomy are less frequent, contrary to the venous system, and most of these variations affect visceral arteries. Variations in the brachial artery are the most frequently reported and so far a minimum of six different patterns have been described. The most common of these patterns is the superficial brachial artery, which lies superficially to the medi...

Anatomic Variations of Brachial Plexus: A Cadaveric Study

Introduction: The brachial plexus is responsible for the innervation to the upper limb and some parts of the thorax. Variations in the branching of the brachial plexus are common and have been reported in 65.3% of the population. The variations (Atypical communication) of brachial plexus have significant clinical and surgical importance. Methods: In this study 10 upper limbs which belonged...
