چکیده

Selections of the proximal-distal axis were removed so as to produce wings lacking entire skeletal levels. The innervation of the resulting limb from the appropriate spinal nerves was tested by electrophysiological recording, gross dissection and serial sections. Ther nerves form repeatable and ordered patterns in the modified limbs which can be readily related to the normal pattern. In general the segmental nerves only innervate their appropriate territory irrespective of its location; the route followed by the nerves is characteristic for the skeletal level they traverse. If a target is missing then so is the normal nerve branch to that region.

Regulation of the deficiencies along the proximal distal axis of the chick wing-bud: a quantitative analysis.

The wing-bud shows zero regulation following removal of a whole slice of the proximal-distal axis from stage 22 or later. Prior to this it is possible that it may show some regulation. Some of the apparent regulation may be explained by the way in which the limb grows. The bud never shows perfect size regulation or morphallaxis. The proximal-distal axis of the bud between shoulder and wrist exp...

‘Regeneration’ of wing bud stumps of chick embryos and reactivation of Msx-1 and Shh expression in response to FGF-4 and ridge signals

We examined systematically the ability of chick limb bud stumps to regenerate distal structures when fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-4 is applied. When amputations were made within 600 mu m of the tip and FGF-4 applied either posteriorly or both apically and posteriorly, outgrowth of stump tissues occurred and a virtually complete skeleton developed. 'Regeneration' of distal structures was corre...

A Rare Congenital Anomaly of Wing in a Pigeon Chick (Columba livia)

Case Description- A 20-day-old pigeon chick with left wing distal to the carpal joint into left flank presented to our avian medicine and surgery clinic. Clinical Findings-The bird had a mal-shaped wing structure, whereas the axial skeleton, thoracic and pelvic limbs skeleton were normal radiographically and clinically, excluding the left wing. The only clinical sign observed was recumbency. Tr...

Regional differences in the morphology and motility of mesodermal cells from the early wing-bud of normal and talpid3 mutant chick embryos.

A method of culturing has been employed to compare the properties of cells migrating from small mesodermal explants taken from different regions of normal and mutant limb-buds at different stages of development. An analysis by time-lapse cinematography of the morphology and mobility of cells migrating from explants defines a distal region within the limb-bud where these properties are distinct ...

Specification of cell fate along the proximal-distal axis in the developing chick limb bud.

Pattern formation along the proximal-distal (PD) axis in the developing limb bud serves as a good model for learning how cell fate and regionalization of domains, which are essential processes in morphogenesis during development, are specified by positional information. In the present study, detailed fate maps for the limb bud of the chick embryo were constructed in order to gain insights into ...
