EDITORIAL SYNOPSIS This study covers a group of elderly persons who suffer from chronic atrophic gastritis and resulting vitamin B12 deficiency. Increasing weakness, loss of memory, and mental depression were common symptoms and flatulent dyspepsia was sometimes a troublesome recurring complaint. These symptoms were improved by treatment with vitamin B12. Even if untreated, persons in this group rarely develop severe pernicious anaemia.
