Proximal migration of a bipolar prosthesis into the innominate bone.

چکیده
Bipolar hemiarthroplasty of the hip joint has been used for the treatment of femoral neck fractures and osteonecrosis of the femoral head.1-2 This prosthesis originally was believed to decrease shear stress on the acetabular cartilage, resulting in decreased migration.3,4 However, osteolysis of the acetabulum and migration of the head have been reported after bipolar hemiarthroplasty.5-7 This article reports a case of severe proximal migration of a bipolar prosthesis into the innominate bone following revision hip arthroplasty.

Periprosthetic Femoral Fracture With Broken Implant Insitu: - A Treatment Prospect
INTRODUCTION Fractures involving bones containing a component of a prosthetic joint are becoming more common. The causation is multifactorial but most of these injuries are associated with trivial trauma. The options available for operative management of these fractures include internal fixation of the fracture alone, fixation of the fracture with revision of the prosthesis, and reconstruction ...
متن کاملAcetabular development after bipolar hemiarthroplasty for osteosarcoma in children.
A retrospective analysis was performed of eight patients with an open triradiate cartilage, who underwent resection for osteosarcoma and reconstruction of the proximal femur with a hemiarthroplasty, in order to identify changes of acetabular development. An analysis of the centre-edge angle, teardrop-to-medial prosthesis distance, superior joint space, teardrop-to-superior prosthesis distance, ...
متن کاملAcetabular reconstruction with a bipolar prosthesis. Five year results of the Dautry technique.
We report the results of acetabular reconstruction using a bipolar prosthesis bearing on cancellous bone graft in 37 patients after a minimum of five years. There was a satisfactory clinical outcome in 58% when assessed by pain, range of movement and stability, with greater improvement in the pain score than of the other parameters. Radiological migration of the prosthesis was a frequent findin...
متن کاملHand-Modelled Composite Prostheses after Resection of Peri-Acetabular Bone Malignancies
PURPOSE To improve function after pelvic resection involving the acetabulum, using an anatomic composite implant built with screws and cement. MATERIAL AND METHOD Since 1990, 66 patients with peri-acetabular bone malignancies have been treated by extensive resection followed by hand-modelled innominate prosthesis with partially constrained total hip prosthesis. The hand-modelled innominate pr...
متن کاملModular prosthetic replacement of the proximal femur after resection of a bone tumour a long-term follow-up.
We describe 25 patients who were treated for a tumour of the proximal femur by resection and replacement with an uncemented, bipolar, modular prosthesis. When followed up after more than ten years four prostheses (16%) had required revision. Two joints showed wear and another necrosis of the acetabulum. One patient with loosening of the stem had been treated by radiotherapy to the femur. Articu...
