Table 2 . End - Expiratory Breath Temperatures in Human
نویسنده
چکیده
We studied several relevant biological aspects of breath-alcohol, analysis in 55 healthy men and women, after alcohol ingestion and during breathalcohol analysis with a typical 4th-generation instrument. We measured breath volumes, delivery pressures, and end-expiratory temperatures, with the following findings: End-expiratory temperature, 32.4135.69 #{176}C (mean, 34.53 #{176}C); forced vital Capacity, 1825-6550 ml (mean, 4038 ml): maximum expiration after normal inspiration, 1180-4550 ml (mean, 2730 ml); breath delivery pressure into a prototype Borg-Warner Model P-7 breath-alcohol apparatus, 8-50 inches H20 (mean, 21.3). These data and other pertinent findings from this study should assist in more rational design of breath-sampling systems in forthcoming breath-alcohol instruments and in developing valid procedures for their use.

Breath analysis as a technique in clinical chemistry.
Breath possesses unique advantages as a specimen for clinical chemical analyses, including the continuous equilibrium of gases and volatile substances between expired alveolar air and the pulmonary blood circulation. Substances amenable to analysis in breath include 02, C02, CO,and other gases, volatile organic compounds, and many drugs with sufficiently high vapor pressures at physiological te...
متن کاملAcute effects of thixotropy conditioning of inspiratory muscles on end-expiratory chest wall and lung volumes in normal humans.
Thixotropy conditioning of inspiratory muscles consisting of maximal inspiratory effort performed at an inflated lung volume is followed by an increase in end-expiratory position of the rib cage in normal human subjects. When performed at a deflated lung volume, conditioning is followed by a reduction in end-expiratory position. The present study was performed to determine whether changes in en...
متن کاملFluctuations in end-expiratory lung volume during Cheyne-Stokes respiration.
We hypothesized that patients with Cheyne-Stokes respiration exhibit periodic increases in end-expiratory lung volume, mediated by changes in breath components, postinspiratory inspiratory muscle activity, or both. Calibrated inductive plethysmography revealed that 12 of 12 patients with Cheyne-Stokes respiration experienced increases in end-expiratory volume during hyperpnea: maximum 412 +/- 1...
متن کاملRespiratory influence on left atrial volume calculation with 3D-echocardiography
BACKGROUND Left atrial volume (LAV) estimation with 3D echocardiography has been shown to be more accurate than 2D volume calculation. However, little is known about the possible effect of respiratory movements on the accuracy of the measurement. METHODS 100 consecutive patients admitted with chest pain were examined with 3D echocardiography and LAV was quantified during inspiratory breath ho...
متن کاملEffect of PEEP on breath sound power spectra in experimental lung injury
BACKGROUND Acute lung injury (ALI) is known to be associated with the emergence of inspiratory crackles and enhanced transmission of artificial sounds from the airway opening to the chest wall. Recently, we described the effect of ALI on the basic flow-induced breath sounds, separated from the crackles. In this study, we investigated the effects of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) on the...
