Kaon Condensation in Dense Stellar Matter
نویسنده
چکیده
This article combines two talks given by the authors and is based on works done in collaboration with G.E. Brown and D.-P. Min on kaon condensation in dense baryonic medium treated in chiral perturbation theory using heavybaryon formalism. It contains, in addition to what was recently published, astrophysical backgrounds for kaon condensation discussed by Brown and Bethe, a discussion on a renormalization-group analysis to meson condensation worked out together with H.K. Lee and S.-J. Sin, and the recent results of K. M. Westerberg in the bound-state approach to the Skyrme model. Negatively charged kaons are predicted to condense at a critical density 2 <∼ ρ/ρ0 <∼ 4, in the range to allow the intriguing new phenomena predicted by Brown and Bethe to take place in compact star matter. Dependence of relative abundances of constituents in dense stellar matter on nuclear symmetry energy
For a dense stellar matter, which is electrically neutral and in beta equilibrium, the electron chemical potential, μe, will depend nontrivially on baryonic matter density. It is generally expected that as density increases, the electron chemical potential will increase and new degrees of freedom will emerge as μe becomes comparable to their energy scales. Assuming the electrical neutrality and...
متن کاملThe Role of trapped neutrino in dense stellar matter and kaon condensation
We investigate the effect of neutrino trapping on the kaon condensation process and Equation of State (EOS) in a newly formed neutron star matter which is less than several seconds old. Using nonlinear relativistic mean field model ,we find that the presence of neutrino shifts the threshold density for kaon condensation and muon production to much higher density. We also studied the pressure an...

We discuss the role of kaon-nucleon and nucleon-nucleon correlations in kaon condensation in dense matter. Correlations raise the threshold density for kaon condensation, possibly to densities higher than those encountered in stable neutron stars.

متن کاملTwo branches of neutron stars - reconciling a 2M⊙ pulsar and SN1987A
Aims. The analysis of SN1987A led Brown and Bethe (1995) to conclusion, that the maximum mass of cold neutron stars is low, Mmax ≈ 1.5 M⊙. Such a low Mmax, due to a kaon condensation in the stellar core, implies collapse of a too massive deleptonized protoneutron star into a black hole. This would naturally explain the lack of a neutron star in the SN1987A remnant. On the other hand, recent eva...
