Modeling Weather Conditions Consequences on Road Trafficking Behaviors

چکیده
We provide a model to understand how adverse weather conditions modify traffic flow dynamic. We first prove that the microscopic Free Flow Speed of the vehicles is changed and then provide a rule to model this change. For this, we consider a thresholded linear model, corresponding to an application of a MARS model [1] to road trafficking. This model adapts itself locally to the whole road network and provides accurate unbiased forecasted speed using live or short term forecasted weather data information.

Crash Frequency Modeling Using Real-Time Environmental and Traffic Data and Unbalanced Panel Data Models
Traffic and environmental conditions (e.g., weather conditions), which frequently change with time, have a significant impact on crash occurrence. Traditional crash frequency models with large temporal scales and aggregated variables are not sufficient to capture the time-varying nature of driving environmental factors, causing significant loss of critical information on crash frequency modelin...
متن کاملAnalysis of Road Lighting Quantity and Quality in Varying Weather Conditions
This article focuses on road lighting measurements and calculations. Road lighting measurements are made to study the definition of appropriate road surface luminance levels during different weather conditions. Measurements took place in five pilot locations where the effects of snow, rain and fog on road luminances were examined. Through the measurement results, the effects of weather on road ...

Background and Objectives: Road traffic accidents are a major cause of disability and mortality around the world and the most common cause of these accidents is often attributed to human errors. Considering the importance of emotional intelligence in controlling individual behaviors, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and risky driving behav...
متن کاملThe Climate Change-Road Safety-Economy Nexus: A System Dynamics Approach to Understanding Complex Interdependencies
Road accidents have the highest externality costs to society and to the economy, even when compared to the externality damages associated with air emissions and oil dependency. Road safety is one of the most complicated topics, which involves many interdependencies, and so, a sufficiently thorough analysis of roadway safety will require a novel system-based approach in which the associated feed...

Road safety has been internationally recognized as a primary strategic goal in many societies and involves road user, vehicle and environment elements in a systematic manner. The element of road users represents all aspects of human factors, such as user age, gender, health condition, personality, alcohol use, distraction, driving experience, etc. The vehicle element includes vehicle type, size...
