Issues and challenges in securing VoIP
نویسندگان
چکیده
Voice over the Internet protocol (VoIP) is being rapidly deployed, and the convergence of the voice and data worlds is introducing exciting opportunities. Lower cost and greater flexibility are the key factors luring enterprises to transition to VoIP. Some security problems may surface with the widespread deployment of VoIP. In this article, we discuss these security problems and propose a high-level security architecture that captures required features at each boundary-network-element in the VoIP infrastructure. We describe mechanisms to efficiently integrate information between distributed security components in the architecture. a 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Voice over IP (VOIP) the transmis sion of voice over traditional packetswitched IP networks is one of the hottest trends in telecommunications. As with any new technology, VOIP introduces both opportunities and security challenges. Lower cost and greater flexibility are among the prom ises of VOIP for the enterprise, but security administrators will face signif icant issues. Administrators m...
متن کاملSecuring VoIP Systems: A QoS-Oriented Approach
Voice over IP (VoIP) is a communication technology allowing voice traffic transmission as data packets over a private or a public IP network. VoIP allows significant benefits for customers and service providers including cost savings, services integration, and systems extensibility. Nevertheless, the VoIP technology suffers from many hurdles such as architecture complexity, interoperability pro...
متن کاملSecuring the Media Stream Inside VoIP SIP Based Sessions
One of the main issues encountered in the development of VoIP applications and infrastructures relates with ensuring the security of the communication channel between peers. The discussion on this subject can be split in two principal directions: the signaling path security and the media path security. In this document we focus on the latter by overviewing the current most important available m...
متن کاملSecuring VOIP networks via Transport protocols Layer
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. VoIP services have compelling technical advantages over circuit switching. VoIP networks are based more on an open architecture than that of their circuit-switched contemporaries. This open, standards-based architecture means...
متن کاملSecuring Voice over IP Conferencing with Decentralized Group Encryption
This thesis addresses the development of an end-to-end secure Voice over IP (VoIP) conference system. We are particularly interested in challenges associated with deploying such a system in ad-hoc networks containing low bandwidth and/or high latency data links. End-to-end security is handled by the decentralized Public Key Group Encryption library (PKGE) developed at Lincoln Laboratory; PKGE a...
