چکیده

We present the results of deep spectroscopy for the central region of the cluster lens SDSS J1004+4112 with the Subaru telescope. A secure detection of an emission line of the faint blue stellar object (component E) near the center of the brightest cluster galaxy (G1) confirms that it is the central fifth image of the lensed quasar system. In addition, we measure the stellar velocity dispersion of G1 to be σ∗ = 352± 13 km s. We combine these results to obtain constraints on the mass MBH of the putative black hole (BH) at the center of the inactive galaxy G1, and hence on the MBH-σ∗ relation at the lens redshift zl = 0.68. From detailed mass modeling, we place an upper limit on the black hole mass, MBH < 2.1× 10 M⊙ at 1σ level (< 3.1× 10M⊙ at 3σ), which is consistent with black hole masses expected from the local and redshift-evolved MBH-σ∗ relations, MBH ∼ 10 9 − 10M⊙.

Recurrence of the Blue Wing Enhancements in the High Ionization Lines of Sdss 1004+4112 A

We present integral field spectroscopic observations of the quadruple-lensed QSO SDSS 1004+4112 taken with the fiber system INTEGRAL at the William Herschel Telescope on 2004 January 19. In May 2003 a blueward enhancement in the high ionization lines of SDSS 1004+4112A was detected and then faded. Our observations are the first to note a second event of similar characteristics less than one yea...

Discovery of Multiply Imaged Galaxies behind the Cluster and Lensed Quasar

We have identified three multiply imaged galaxies in Hubble Space Telescope images of the redshift z = 0.68 cluster responsible for the large-separation quadruply lensed quasar, SDSS J1004+4112. Spectroscopic redshifts have been secured for two of these systems using the Keck I 10m telescope. The most distant lensed galaxy, at z = 3.332, forms at least four images, and an Einstein ring encompas...

Observations and Theoretical Implications of the Large Separation Lensed Quasar Sdss J1004+4112

We study the recently discovered gravitational lens SDSS J1004+4112, the first quasar lensed by a cluster of galaxies. It consists of four images with a maximum separation of 14.62. The system was selected from the photometric data of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), and has been confirmed as a lensed quasar at z = 1.734 on the basis of deep imaging and spectroscopic follow-up observations....

Lensing time delays as a substructure constraint : a case study with the cluster SDSS J 1004 + 4112

Gravitational lensing time delays are well known to depend on cosmological parameters, but they also depend on the details of the mass distribution of the lens. It is usual to model the mass distribution and use time-delay observations to infer cosmological parameters, but it is naturally also possible to take the cosmological parameters as given and use time delays as constraints on the mass d...

The Evolution of the Mbh-σ Relation Inferred from the Age Distribution of Local Early-type Galaxies and Agn Evolution

We utilize the local velocity dispersion function (VDF) of spheroids, together with their inferred age– distributions, to predict the VDF at higher redshifts (0 < z ∼< 6), under the assumption that (i) most of the stars in each nearby spheroid formed in a single episode, and (ii) the velocity dispersion σ remained nearly constant afterward. We assume further that a supermassive black hole (BH) ...
