چکیده

It was recently shown in this laboratory (1) that in idiopathic hyperlipemia the elimination of lipids from the blood stream following an intravenous infusion of a fat emulsion is considerably delayed, indicating a defect of the lipemiaclearing mechanism in these patients. It was then found that the clearing activity present in the serum of normal human subjects who have received heparin was inhibited by the serum of patients with primary or secondary hyperlipemia (2). It was suggested that this inhibition of clearing was the cause of the hyperlipemia. Seifter and Baeder (3) have shown that an inhibitor of lipemia clearing is present in the serum of rats with experimental nephrosis and those receiving cortisone. In addition they demonstrated the presence of an inhibitor of lipemia clearing in the serum of normal rats, although its concentration was much lower than in rats receiving cortisone. Crum, I lein and Lever (4) have separated dialyzable and nondialyzable inhibitors of lipemia clearing from normal bovine serum (5). Hollett and Meng (6) have recently described the presence of an inhibitor of lipemia clearing in normal human blood.

Plasma heparin levels. Correlation with serum cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins.

SINCE the original observations of the effect of heparin upon the clearing of alimentary lipemia,' much data have accumulated that indicate that heparin functions physiologically to facilitate the exit of alimentary triglycerides from the blood. The available evidence on this important question has recently been summarized.2 3 The nature of the heparin lipemia-clearing reaction involves the act...

Absence of lipemia clearing factor lipase in human adipose tissue.

Lipoprotein lipase, or lipemia clearing factor lipase (which is more accurate terminology [l]) , is a heparin-activated enzyme which has been found in rat, beef, and pig heart (2). The adipose tissues of rats, rabbits, and especially chickens contain greater quantities of the enzyme (3). This latter observation led to the suggestion that the major site of lipoprotein lipase activity was in the ...

Clearing factor, a heparin-activated lipoprotein lipase. I. Isolation and characterization of the enzyme from normal rat heart.

The importance of plasma lipoproteins in normal and abnormal fat metabolism has stimulated interest in the heparin-induced lipemia clearing system first observed by Hahn (2). As a result of the efforts of several independent investigators (3,4), it is now known that,, upon the administrat’ion of heparin to animals of many different species, an enzyme appears in the blood which is able to “clear...

Disposal of intravenously administered fat in subjects with atherosclerosis and in normal controls.

F a fatty meal, the plasma becomes turbid because the concentration of chylomicra in it rises. Several studies have shown that the intensity and sometimes the duration of this alimentary lipemia is greater on the average in subjects who have had cardiac infarction than in those who have not. Some of these studies have been open to criticism because the possible effects of a recent infarction or ...
