چکیده

Insecticide-resistant populations of TPB have been noted in the Delta region (Hollingsworth et al., 1 ; Snodgrass, 1 ). Proposed EPA regulatory constraints on organophosphate insecticide use are anticipated. Viable replacements for organophosphate insecticides are needed. These may include efficient, long-lasting, and specific biological control agents. In this study, a commercially available Beauveria strain (GHA) (Laverlam, SA) along with an experimental strain in production by USDAARS were field tested, alone and in combination with Diamond, as control agents for suppression of plant bugs.

A Novel Bioassay to Evaluate the Potential of Beauveria bassiana Strain NI8 and the Insect Growth Regulator Novaluron Against Lygus lineolaris on a Non-Autoclaved Solid Artificial Diet

A non-autoclaved solid diet was used to evaluate the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin (Hypocreales: Clavicipitaceae) strain NI8 and the insect growth regulator novaluron (Diamond® 0.83EC insecticide) for control of the tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) (Hemiptera: Miridae). The diet was composed of toasted wheat germ, ground lima bean meal...

Performance of Diamond (novaluron) for Control of Heliothines and Plant Bugs, 2003

Pyrethroid resistance in the lepidopteran insects has caused an influx of new non-pyrethroid based compounds. One such compound is Diamond® .83 EC (novaluron), an insect growth regulator. This is a newly available compound sold as Diamond. The purpose of this experiment was to test the effectiveness of Diamond with respect to a standard of spinosad (Tracer® 4 L) and cyhalothrin (Karate Z® 2.08 ...

Natural occurrence of the entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana as a vertically transmitted endophyte of Pinus radiata and its effect on above- and below-ground insect pests

Background. The New Zealand forest industry would greatly benefit from a successful way of controlling insect pests. The entomopathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana could hold such potential and has previously been shown to be capable of endophytic colonisation of the Monterey pine Pinus radiata. Nevertheless clarifications on its mode of transmission, persistence and action in this plant are r...

SELECTION OF Beauveria bassiana AND Metarhizium anisopliae ISOLATES FOR THE CONTROL OF Blissus antillus (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae)

Chinch bugs of the genus Blissus (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae) are serious pests of maize, wheat, sorghum and various grasses. This study is the first to screen isolates of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae against 4 instar and adult Blissus antillus aiming to develop a biological control program for this important pasture pest. Ten fungal isolates were initially screened and three isolate...

Regulatory cascade and biological activity of Beauveria bassiana oosporein that limits bacterial growth after host death.

The regulatory network and biological functions of the fungal secondary metabolite oosporein have remained obscure. Beauveria bassiana has evolved the ability to parasitize insects and outcompete microbial challengers for assimilation of host nutrients. A novel zinc finger transcription factor, BbSmr1 (B. bassiana secondary metabolite regulator 1), was identified in a screen for oosporein overp...
