چکیده

In this paper we use mutual information to study the distribution in time and frequency of information relevant for phonetic classi cation. A large database of hand-labeled uent speech is used to (a) compute the mutual information between phoneme labels and a point of logarithmic energy in the time-frequency plane and (b) compute the joint mutual information between phoneme labels and two points of logarithmic energy in the time-frequency plane.

Search for Information Bearing Components in Speech

In this paper, we use mutual information to characterize the distributions of phonetic and speaker/channel information in a timefrequency space. The mutual information (MI) between the phonetic label and one feature, and the joint mutual information (JMI) between the phonetic label and two or three features are estimated . The Miller's bias formulas for entropy and mutual information estimates ...

A Hybrid Classifier for Characterizing Motor Unit Action Potentials in Diagnosing Neuromuscular Disorders

Background: The time and frequency features of motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) extracted from electromyographic (EMG) signal provide discriminative information for diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders. However, the results of conventional automatic diagnosis methods using MUAP features is not convincing yet. Objective: The main goal in designing a MUAP characterization system ...

Time-frequency distribution of partial phonetic information measured using mutual information

This paper uses the method of mutual information to estimate the distribution of partial phonetic information in the time-frequency plane relative to an acoustic landmark. TIMIT transcriptions are parsed to estimate the locations of consonant closure landmarks, consonant release landmarks, manner change landmarks, and vowel or glide pivot landmarks. A mel-scale spectrogram is computed over the ...
